Worlds of Warcraft Beta Announced

I'm not really big on MMORPGs in general. I've played a few but none have kept my attention more than a few months. I'm hoping WoW is more than just a big-ass chatroom, which is what most MMORPGs basically are.

From what I've been reading about World of Warcraft, it sounds like it will avoid most of the mistakes made by previous MMORPGs. The more I learn about World of Warcraft, the more excited I get about it. It's the only MMORPG coming out that I'm actually planning on subscribing to.

I like what I have been reading about as well.

The articles at IGN and gamespy.com have given me hope that this will actually be a game I'll want to play for more than a month or two. :) I just hope that they don't push for a quick (for Blizzard, that is) release time just to get it out the door. I'm willing to wait a few years for a quality game.

I don't think you have to worry about Blizzard rushing the game out the door. Heck, one of the things that they are most famous for are not releasing games until they are released in a state of near-perfection, something that can be aggrivating to fans when they push back release dates over and over again. :D

Besides, World of Warcraft began development over four years ago, so I think that they're finally beginning to wrap it up.

Yeah, I remember all the fuss about the constant delays of Diablo 2.

The Diablo II delays are nothing compared to the Starcraft delays.

Starcraft was originally slated for release by the end of 1996, but by the time it finally got released, it was the spring of 1998. :D

Ah, memories.

Though I think that was more because they decided to stop using the Warcraft II engine and make a new one for Starcraft halfway into development. Some of the oldest screenshots of Starcraft are pretty amusing.

Agreed. I was looking through an old issue of Computer Gaming World a while back that had early screenshots of Starcraft, and it basically looked like Warcraft in space. The finished product looked completely different.

Besides, considering how immensely popular Starcraft was (and still is), it looks like Blizzard made the right choice by taking their time. :)

I'm always cool with companies taking their time. I wish more companies would do it. Especially with PC games.

I signed up last week too. I happened to cruise by the Blizzards Forums today and I guess Bliz has allowed ppl to use yahoo and hotmail email addys when signing up for beta, reversing their original refusla of said addresses.

This has caused quite a fanboy panic at the forums as l33t dudes post their strategies to submit multiple beta applications and the non l33t ers crying foul and collapsing in a fit of paralxiyms.

Its quite funny to read actually. Ahh sweet sweet fanboyism :)
