Worthless Loot

First Post
OK, are we the only group of adventurers that fights over worthless loot? In our latest adventure we found a mask with bunny ears and a stone bowl, both of which are worth nothing. The thief quickly claimed the mask, but she is currently fighting with the cleric (me) over the stone bowl. The cleric needs something to shave in....

all items have a purpose.

no, you are not alone.

but we usually fight over trophies from our kills. who gets the eyes, appendages, teeth, hide, etc...

The players in my groups have never fought over loot -- worthless or not.

For some reason, the players I game with have always been guided by the notion that items should go to the PCs that can best use them, and everything else should be divided evenly.

Strangely enough, these PCs are extremely successful.

(I could give a straight-forward game theory explanation for this, but that would feel too much like work.)

I have had my group of players split on two seperate occasions over magical item division. Last week there was some discussion over who should get an Amulet of Health - the front line fighter with crappy hit points or the wizard that hasn't gotten into hand to hand combat (and has 4 less HP than the fighter) in about 8 encounters. Seemed like a weird discussion to me. I'm hyper sensitive to 'discussions' of this nature however.

Fighting over worhtless loot though? Never.

I once saw on the Discovery Channel where Archeologist find lots and lots of little clay oil lamps, sponges on sticks (TP) and shoes at dig sites, so I decided to place them in my dungeons as a common item. My players went crazy for them!

My players do not argue about worthless loot, but they have been known to get excited over it.

A bronze helmet with horns, providing no AC bonus. Odd bits of clothing, cool knick-knacks.

Especially the INT5 barbarian. :p

MINE< MINE< MINE

Man, I know this one, I had a thief player who was horrible, he said he could sell ANYTHING on the black market, so after every adventure, for ex. If they cleared out a set of ruins he would go back inside and take EVERYTHING! paintings of the walls and repair them and try to fence them as antiques. He played a good con artist and I have to admit that he did finance his own estate, but as for fighting they really never fought over anything, it was sually my turn or who found it or who knew what the item was sought of thing.

Even better is worthless magic items

a DM once put beaneath the floorboards of my house a bag of pixie bones, an embroided handerkerchief and a singing rock (whom we named Hortence)

I got into a fight over subjectivly worthless treasure.
at 12th lvl we killed a dragon (loosing 2 PC's - a good dragon fight) and after proportioning out the gems, items, platnuim and stuff we were left with big piles of uncounted silver and gold. We were on a Save the World quest and had no way to transport what remained. I summoned a Xorn planar allay and let him feed on the stacks of loose coins. While the rest of the party happily debated if the xorn would feed by bending over and shovling coins into the top of its head, or just sink into the floor and allow the coins to fall in, the wizard got really upset. The resulting fight lasted an hour.

The only item my players have ever fought over is an intelligent beer stein of infinite alchohol. They fight over that constantly, or sometimes just wait for the person with it to pass out, whichever.
