It is a VERY good ad, and I wish I had done it.

And I'll just let that opinion speak for me. (Although I have no advertising background what-so-ever. I just agree with CP.)

I didn't think it was funny, but then I wasn't in anyway insulted by it. I thought it quite a naff ad and turned the page to something more interesting.

And IMHO its indirectly insulting to us tabletop gamers too. Are losers who live in their parent's basements the types we play with, or want to show up at our games?

I'll add my voice to the chorus who think the ad is funny, even in a self-deprecating way. The stereotype they invoke in their ad is one that many gamers identify in themselves or someone they know, otherwise it wouldn't be an effective marketing tool for t-shirts and other gamer related gear. Hell, it's practically a print version of the Dead Alewives sound clip that many gamer geeks seem to have embraced as their theme song.

I play WoW. I live on Cape Cod, I can't find any good pen and paper groups here. So thats my RPG fix.
I knew a guy that was addictied to Everquest that he bought a second computer system and set it up next to his other other to play EQ online with 2 characters at the same time.

I think it's the other way around, instead of there being people that take themselves too seriously, there are more often than not people who don't take themselves seriously enough. It's one thing, also, to not care how you yourself are portrayed, but don't forget you're part of a group as well who might wish to be portrayed as different than the stereotype.

As for the ad, i didn't find it funny, and I wish they produced more tasteful representations of the gamer than this half-baked excuse of an advertisement spot.
