Yeah...grow some thicker skin. It's just an ad. The only people who really have a chance of seeing it are those in the thick of the nerd collective already. So who cares about how this stereotype is portrayed?

I'm in the "it was cool" category. When word went out on Dragon's Foot that the ad was placed, we went down to our FLGS and bought our first copy of Drogon in... Forever, just to have the ad.

Picked up DMG II while we were there too :D

When you also become more sensitive to the others who seriously dislike this kind of portrayment, maybe some people will take your goading to heart.

Yeah, this is target marketing. I do agree that if this ad was put in main stream publications like time and gq then it would be terrible. But I doubt big pockets hasbro have marketing people that silly. This ad so far has run in dragon and dungeon magazine and i thought i saw it in one of my vg publications.

Oh man! There are plenty of posts that are sensitive to the emotional gamers needs. Trust me, my first thought when reading the posts of people who were bothered by this, was closer to "get a tissue" then what I actually posted.

I haven't seen the ad, but I think it sounds funny.

Actually, I'd like to forward it to my online-gaming friends... could someone post it here as a JPEG (c'mon, I'm sure Wizards won't mind) or e-mail it to me?

My address is:

Thanks,

Jason

Well...you also seem to forget gamers are people too and not some amorphous group of contructs called gamers that are supposed to respond in a programmed way to a piece of ribbing or slight joking such as this. I'm sure certain things that would set you off, would not set them off and vice versa. :)

That's pretty funny.

I grew up on consoles too, didn't start looking at D&D until my cousin showed me his 2nd ed book.

Started playing when 3e came out, and to be honest, i'm more of a PC fan, sans MMORPGs, and the Xbox never really appealed to me. I'm more of a NES/SNES fan.
