Early this week, WotC announced on Twitter that today there would be some kind of announcement on their Twitch channel. Those who heard that announcement and tuned in were treated to an announcement that the new storyline will be announced at a live event in June.

The press release announcing the impending announcement also mentions a new setting, as well as the storyline, so it sounds like it might not be set in the Forgotten Realms (or maybe is in a new region - to 5E - of the Realms, such as Icewind Dale). The adventure and the setting might be the same thing, or they might be completely different things. Recently, WotC has released a bunch of settings: Eberron, Ravnica, Wildemount, and the upcoming Theros.

Fans of D&D will learn all about the new setting and storyline

The new storyline specifically will be revealed at 12pm PST (8pm GMT) on Thursday, June 18th.

Other names involved include Felicia Day, Deborah Ann Woll, Amy Acker, David Harbour, Matthew Lillard, and more.

OK so Avernus took the setting guide for Baldur’s Gate from the playtest Murder in Baldur’s Gate adventure and updated it / made it official for 5e.

If the next adventure is set in Icewind Dale, I hope they do the same for the gazetteer from Legacy of the Crystal Shard.

Those gazetteers were the best!

Eyes of Nine

Everything's Fine
No clear definition was provided. I assume that is means, any place we haven't already visited in a setting book or adventure.

So that could be something like Cormyr, or as far as Spelljammer.

Ok, yeah, I think that's what WotC thinks too. More confirmation on June 18 I guess if its Icewind Dale.

Which btw, I'm sort of SUPER BORED with the North as an overall set of locations. We've had Waterdeep, Storm King's, Dragon Queen, Elemental Evil and other's I'm forgetting I'm sure.
(I have not forgotten DM's Guild...)

Faerun (and Toril of course) are much larger than just the North. I would have thought the success of ToA and Chult would have encouraged them to go further afield...

Yeah, if not now, I expect they will do that sooner or later.

I am not super versed in Strahd or the Realms - how do you see Perkin's mention of Curse of Strahd lining up with Icewind Dale?

I don't see it lining up with Icewind Dale at all. Curse of Strahd wasn't a setting book though. Barovia is a small part of the Domains of Dread and every part has a much different feel to them. I could see them easily deciding to run another adventure based off another a different domain and some of them could even serve as an entry to other settings.

Vecna is a Darklord in Ravenloft and can tie in with Greyhawk. Lord Soth and Vlad Drakov were both Darklords in Ravenloft and can tie in with Krynn.

I am not saying I really see any of these things happening but they barely dipped their toes in the water with Curse of Strahd when it comes the the Ravenloft setting so I could see more in the future.

Personally I am really bored with Forgotten Realms as the setting. They initially didn't want to muddy the water by introducing more settings but I think that ship has sailed. Rather than give us more MTG and Critical Role settings, how about we finally get to explore a little of other other famous settings that people have been asking for.
