Dragonlance WotC Officially Confirms Takhisis and Tiamat Are The Same

It's been an issue in dispute for decades, over various editions of D&D, but WotC has officially confirmed that - at least in 5E - Dragonlance's Takhisis is, indeed, currently Tiamat. In previous editions, Tiamat has varied from being a big dragon to a minor goddess, while Takhisis has been a greater god on Krynn. Of course, this is not an opinion universally held. Dragonlance co-creator Margaret Weis emphatically stated that "TAKHISIS IS NOT TIAMAT, DAMN IT!"

I never felt that Tiamat in the cartoon was a god

But it’s about time that this was settled. Curious if draconians will become close re monsters in d&d next etc. wotc you own it all so stop separating it

No, in the cartoon she is not depicted as a god. She is more similar to the 1e Monster Manual "Chromatic Dragon" version.

FYI, a true god does appear in one episode (Venger's master) and it was way more powerful than Venger or Dungeon Master.

Mind you, in 5E, "demon lord" isn't a defined thing - one can probably safely presume that it means one is a lord of demons, but beyond that, it doesn't say much. Being a demon lord does not, so far, preclude also being a deity.
Isn't one of the demon lords either an actual demon OR just a truly horrifying lack of hygiene on its level of the abyss and no one knows for sure?
