I may pass on this on this one, the concept as rough as it is in the description just doesn't appeal to me. I hope they continue to support FR.

The trains and dinosaurs would definately appeal to my 3 year old tho.

I must be kind of out of it, because this is the first I've heard about the setting (or maybe I didn't care about it until it turned out to be so weird). This sounds...interesting. I'm reserving judgement, since I am rather fond of Swashbuckling, but it just sounds way too out there. Not that I mind it being out there, it just seems so far out there tha it dosn't seem cohesive. I'm taking a wait and see attitude, my rational being thus:

I like swashbuckling

I like steampunk

I like Dinosaurs, just not in D&D

But add them all togther, and who knows.

The WOTC Setting Search Winner has been revealed to be a swashbuckling steampunk campaign setting, with dinosaurs. Obviously much more has yet to be revealed, but what do you think about the basic premise?

Sucks...Out of 11,000 and this is the best that they can do??? No wonder they have laid off so many people in the last couple of years.

I don't like the setting from the way it was described at all. It sounds very "kiddie" and I'm really sorry that was their "Big Pick."

I can't believe they picked such a weak ass setting. Must have been "flavor of the minute" for the judges or something.

Seems like I'm not the only one that doesn't like steampunk.

Granted it is early to criticize what (if anything) that the fantasy setting search winner has come up with. Time will tell.

I have a strange prediction. It will be either so popular that will (eventually) approach Forgotten Realms style fanism with lots of supplements and fan enthuiasm. Otherwise it will fall HARD, selling a couple hundred copies and making Wizards regret the time spent searching those entries.:p

The Steampunk aspect of the setting does not upset me in the slightest. I have played and loved both Space: 1889 and Castle Falkenstein (the non-GURPS version, thank you). And swashbuckling and steampunk work fairly well together (again, see Castle Falkenstein).

Equally, in my current D&D3e game we have finicky blackpowder weapons, so mixing musketeers and magic is not really a problem.

It's adding in the dinosaurs that has me worried.

I'll wait and see, but I must admit that I am currently on my guard about this one.

The dinosaurs and swashbuckling and darkness are no problem for me. I, however, hate and despise steampunk, and I am hoping that this isn't it.
