Would you play a class with no special abilities?

As long as it had a bonus feat every now and then, it would be kinda nice--sort of like a character who had no formal training in anything but was naturally skilled. You'd be able to do a lot of things with your feats and skills and have as decent a chance as any at survival.

How about if it were a prestige class?

The only entry requirements is that it cannot be taken at first level.

But, the list of class skills would be limited to the same list of class skills as the class you have the least number of levels in.

No bonus feats? I've done this as the "Commoner Hero" class. Some players picked it up as multiclass.

Meh. An expert on steroids still seems pretty NPCish to me. That having been said I'd dip into it in a heartbeat for a build I'm contemplating which requires "Good BAB, 4+ skill points, Martial weapon prof/Heavy Armor, Lawful Alignment allowed." Which is pretty hard to come by as a 1 level dip actually.

Perhaps to alleviate some of the dip ishness:

D12 HP
All good saves
Good BAB
All Skills are class skills
Prof in Simple weapons and Light Armour.

At second level you get Med armour + Shield prof
At third level you get Hvy armour and Martial Weapon prof
At 4th level and every 3rd level thereafter you get a bonus feat of your choice.

Thus our wunderkind is less atractive as a dip, but more attractive as a class to stay in.

I don't think I would. They'd be pretty weak without special abilities, even with the very good base stats, and they'd be mechanically dull. Excruciatingly dull. I can barely stand to play a fighter.

YES.

Sometimes I think that if everyone has spell like abilities, or supernat abilities, or w/e then magic becomes almost generic....I think skills are alot of fun, and it makes that when you come across something that is strange, and magical, its that much more interesting.
