D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

I think I would be fine with it. Giving the DM a chance to try what they are thinking makes sense to me.

If it were actually the BG3 companions, that sounds fun.

And thanks for making this a non 5e exclusive post.

BG4 was main example I coukd think of. Wasn't exclusive to it as you coukd easily decide to parachute in at level 10 in say Savage Tide AP.

I think the best part of Savage Tide and is “In the Wake of the Sea Wyvern”, but yeah, I’d totally play it. Midstream with pregens would seem fine.

In my lower level/less experienced player campaign, of 5 PC’s:
  • 2 NPC’s created by me for another campaign, taken by new players to fit a higher level experienced group they joined, leveled up by them after some adventuring, spun off to go independent
  • 1 made by a player who made her own first character, in a different earlier campaign with me, being played again after being “level drained by vampires” offscreen to fit better
  • 1 made by a player who’s been in several campaigns, including one with me years ago
  • 1 where a new player chose the class, race, gender, and wanted me as DM to do the “details”

I've run that adventure in 5E and There Is No hHonor twice iirc.

If pregen part is mechanics only, i have no problem with it, if ican still give it name, chose gender, physical description, personality. Mechanics are just bare bones, everything else is flesh added to those bones and those are up to player. I wouldn't play pregen if i can't add personal touch to it. In short, i wouldn't play Minsc, but i would play character with mechanical build of Minsc.

For older editions, specially 3.x, i would rather take pregen character than spend time creating one myself. Creating high level character in 3.x ( PF1 included) takes too much time. Same with PF2 and 4e. Just give me few decent options, i'll choose one, add my finishing touch to it and let's play.

Inexperienced players (first campaign for most), new edition, wanting to keep things simple.

Also a spin off from why there's a lack of high level games. Complexity is a big one for me. I can run high level buy don't generally want to.

If players want high level D&D their choices are a different edition, find a new DM, DM themselves or play new lower level campaign.
Or, they can do what we used to do in the old days: create a 1st-Level PC and - through a combination of skill, luck and GM Fiat - advance their PCs up to high level?

Takes to long irl. They've done that as well.
Campaign may continue as a side event for occasional play. Find out Sunday.

BG3.5 would continue as occasional game when main game isn't on.

BG4 may be precons using cast of game and left over plot hooks.

Wow.

This is the whole thing, right?

"It takes too long"

Why bother playing ttrpgs if playing the games as they were meant to be played by the designer isn't for you? Why not just play video games?
