WTH, "Daggerdale D&D game for PC" out in may?!

I'm sure the halfling will make a fine mage. But with the racial bonuses he gets, he would make an even better thief (+2 bonus to Thievery--for a 1st level Halfling Thief, skill in thievery goes to 11). He gets a bonus to defense vs. Opportunity Attacks, plus the "Second Chance" power, which means he can move in, strike, and get back out with a better chance to avoid getting hit. It's things like that why I said the build was "suboptimal". Not that a halfling is a mage, but that he isn't a thief.

Which is all moot, as that stuff isn't going to be in the game. It's an action RPG not 4e in computer form.

Hope the character creation in Neverwinter will be just as flexible as Neverwinter Nights. Last I heard you can just select one out of five classes. If that's true, it's lame really.

Cryptic doing Neverwinter doesn't inspire me with confidence. Star Trek Online was a major disappointment with it being little more than a bland space opera regurgitated out with a thin veneer of Star Trekisms loosely pasted over it. Champions Online has almost no dynamism in its combat system whatsoever; it's purely spamming your most powerful ability as fast as you can.

On top of that, they've thrown out all their titles waaaaaaaaay before they were ready for the consumer and then relied on fans to build the brand and fund improvements until they're remotely workable. And then there's the whole issue of the C-Store.

With all due respect, I disagree.

What I hated the most about about NWN was seeing every NPC act and talk and shout and interact with each other, while my PC just stands there, texting everyone. :-S

Now, I wouldnt mind the flexibility with companions characters and hired help that I choose to bring to the party - makes the game noob-friendly and pleases the expert gamer. :)

I want a D&D game that is more like D&D...you know, with a party. That's one thing that really bugged me with the Neverwinter games, 1 other PC. So if you were a fighter, you had a choice, cleric to heal or thief to open traps (which there were a lot), or wizard to provide magical support.

Last game that I really enjoyed for D&D was Baldur's Gate II. NWN was good, just not great.

I just played a demo of Dragon Age 2 the other day and the first thing that came to mind was, "Ugh, I have to manage a whole friggin party... I'm logging back into WoW."

Micro-managing 4-5 characters was fun when I was twenty. Now I just find it a chore. I want to deal with my character and my character only. The rest of the party should be incidental rather than vitally important.

Well, call me schizophrenic , but I agree with both renaug1 and Kzach. :P

Sometimes, I want to manage the whole party, sometimes I just want to bash through the game - and managing equipment for 4-6 characters is the worst of chores...

I think it depends on the gameplay and how much investment you are required to put on that management. I don't mind choosing powers and equipment for my main 5-6 character party on Final Fantasy Tactics or even X-Men Legends, but doing so for the whole 20 character group is horrible. It is a tactical game, so I want to choose, and plan, their actions in battle, but once that's over and the out-of-combat accounting begins, I just wanna play Super Mario World.

I think all games should come with pre-planned options that don't suck.

Which is why, with NWN (and Dragon Age, if I'm not mistaken), I don't want that kind of control: it's an action game. Sure, you can choose your spells and feats and classes, but in the end, it's a real-time action game. Might as well be playing Shadow over Mystara. Or Castlevania. Pausing the game to manage all characters (or even one) is a drag, because it pauses the action.
