WWE performer Eddie Guerrero dies

I still watch both religiously. Sure, it's not as good as say five or six years ago, but there is still some good stuff there. Eddie's matches were often the highlight of SmackDown, and his ladder match against Rey Mysterio earlier in the year was awesome.

Eddie was also supposed to compete for the World Heavyweight Title against (an injured) Batista and Randy Orton at SmackDown this week. Batista is probably going to be out for a few months, so the title would have switched to either Eddie or Orton.

Last year, Wrestlemania XX, 2004 -- Where It All Begins Again, they said. Eddie Guerrero defeated Kurt Angle to retain the WWE Championship in a great match, and then Chris Benoit completed his lifelong dream of winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania, defeating Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a triple threat match. After the match, Benoit's in the ring celebrating, and Eddie pops up behind him, and after a long moment, they hug and celebrate amidst the confetti. They had traveled together for 12 years, wrestling in Japan, Mexico, WCW, the WWF-WWE, and then at Wrestlemania XX the two best friends, both considering each other family, like brothers, they were standing on top of the world together. It was a perfect moment.

After Wrestlemania went off the air, I told one of my friends, "That's it. That's the perfect ending. Wrestling has finished -- that was everything it should have been."

When Eddie passed away Sunday, that's the first thing that came to mind. I watched Eddie across multiple federations and always cheered him like crazy. I've hardly ever known any wrestler that openly loved his work like Eddie.

My mental image, my memory of Eddie Guerrero will always be that ring in Madison Square Garden, on top of the world.

But what gets to me the most are those little girls that lost their father at 38.

Stupid everything.

Truly terrible news this.

Eddie was a consumate heel, and a heck of wrestler - he could match the best luchadors move for move any day.

:(

I just watched Stephanie MacMahon's tribute. And I certainly agree with her last line, He will always be a champion.

Yes. There were several RAW vs Smackdown matches and virtually everyone had a black "EG" armband as well as a "Who's your papi?" shirt. For the most part, they stayed in character tho plotlines were suspended. Smackdown will be similar I'm sure and maybe even TNA Wrestling on Thursday will have a tribute.

The greatest part IMO is the clips they showed of Eddie's antics like his "lie, cheat and steal" gimmick or the friendship shown when he and Chris Benoit won the heavyweight titles.

Buenos noches, Latino Heat.

Former WWE champion Eddie Guerrero passed away due to heart failure brought on by past drug and alcohol abuse, according to a statement made by his wife Vicki to WWE's website this afternoon.

Guerrero told the website, "It was from his past – the drinking and the drug abuse. They found signs of heart disease. She (the examiner) said that the blood vessels were very worn and narrow, and that just showed all the abuse from the scheduling of work and his past. And Eddie just worked out like crazy all the time. It made his heart grow bigger and work harder and the vessels were getting smaller, and that’s what caused the heart failure. He went into a deep sleep.

As soon as they saw his heart, they saw the lining of his heart already had the heart disease. There was no trauma, and Eddie hadn’t hurt himself in any way. It answered a lot of questions. I knew Eddie wasn’t feeling very good for the last week. He was home and kept saying he wasn’t feeling good and we thought it was just “road tired.” So we thought he just had to rest. It answered a lot of my questions, too, because he was just so exhausted. She said it was normal because the heart was working so hard."

Saw the news Sunday evening, watched Raw last night. I was stunned, to say the least. Classiest move of the Raw portion of the tribute was Cena leaving the title belt in the middle of the ring on an Eddie Guerrero shirt.
