X-COM and D20 Modern

As I mentioned in another thread last week, I was thinking of setting up an X-Com d20 Modern game. Then I found Stargate SG-1. Simillar idea, cooler concept, work is all done for me. It uses Spycraft rules, not d20 Modern, but it looks like it fits quite well.

I'm gonna have to check out some of the links posted in this thread. X-com is probably my favorite PC game of all time. I can't drive past a farm and not think of this game.

Glad to see this thread get started. I'm the former lead tester on two of the XCOM products (UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep). I am just getting into the d20 Modern game and have thought about running a campaign set in the XCOM universe. As mentioned above, the strategy guides work well. Avoid the novel that came out, as it strays far from the game. If you can get your hands on the original game as released in the UK (it was called UFO over there), the manual would make a great source.
Good luck in your efforts, I hope to get started and post any notes or ideas that I have regarding XCOM

I can't drive past a farm, and feel frustration at being continually shot at by aleins getting the drop on me...and then it subsides as I remember the strategy guides philosophy of "Dead civilans penalize you LESS than dead soldiers, so use grenades and rocket launchers to pave your way through encounters",...and I smile, imagining blowing of farmers and homesteads. :D

...How about for Spycraft? :D *ducks*

However, it's neat as heck to have someone so involved in the original games here. X-com2 was my introduction to it, and it, and the first game, have yet to be surpassed in its genre, IMO. The RP possibilities are great fun too.

Actually, Spycraft would work extraordinarily well, if you have the Shadowforce Archer campaign setting book, with all the Psionic stuff in it.

The nice thing about using Spycraft, is that sinec both systems use similar WP/VP and Defense systems, all of the aliens and droids from Star Wars D20 could be quickly and easily converted to X-Com aliens. Bith = Sectoids, for example.

Same kinda thing happens to me when I'm stuck in traffic...I can't help but think of Sim City...

Heh, I ran an XCom campaign for a time using Warhammer 40,000 The Tau and Imperial Guard books formed the bulk, with experience rules from Necromunda... It was a lot of fun.

The Auld Grump... They soon learned to fear the Blaster Bombs...
