Oskarn shrugs. "Why, I must travel to the Crossroads in any case, for my hypothesis may be false, in which case it remains necessary to obtain some of the antitoxin from its source. But before I go, it would be best were I able to speak to Herr Bloombald, if only for a moment. Can you arrange this thing without revealing my presence to his enemies?"

"Let me see." Modric's forehead wrinkles as he thinks. "There is a livery stable down this road. Go there and wait by the horse pen. I will have Herr Bloombald meet you there on the pretense of looking to buy a new horse." He looks at you for a second and then goes behind his counter. He pulls out a large floppy hat. "Here wear this. It will improve your disquise. You should leave the back way." Pulling back a curtain you see a back door.

As you make your way to the stables. You are almost run over by a pair of riders. They are going at a full gallop towards the eastern gate. You catch a glance of a heavy set, dark skinned and hawk nosed man in red and yellow silks and a turban. The other is a large tough looking dark skinned ruffin with large scar down is face. You barely dive out of the way as they tunder past.

"Ah, these must be the merchant Yassra and his man," muses Oskarn. "Fleeing bloody vengeance, and doubtless bearing away Ammela's antitoxin with him." With a philosophical shrug, he awaits Herr Bloombald's arrival.

After a few minutes, a carriage arrives and Herr Bloombald steps out. He talks to the owner of the stables for a while and then he walks over and enters the corral. He begins to examine some of the horses. At one point his back is against the railing of the fence across from where you are have been watching.

Oskarn sidles over to the railing. "Herr Bloombald," he says softly, "I believe that I have uncovered the author of your daughter's condition, and that her cure may be nearer at hand than the Crossroads. I remain prepared to journey thither should my supposition prove false, but I felt that it would be best to come to you first. I trust that my reward depends solely upon restoring your daughter to health, even if the journey to the Crossroads proves unnecessary?"

The Burgermeister says nothing for a few seconds. He seems intent on checking the horse infront of him. He then coughs and whispers "You are more resourceful than I had hoped, Herr Oskarn. Since you have descovered the truth let me fill you in on the whole truth. I also know who as poisoned my daughter. And they are using the antidote as a vile blackmail against me. But if I act they will destroy the antidote. That black hearted Thoric wants my daughter's hand in marrage and thus my fortune. I fear that as soon as they are married my life will be forfit. You are my last hope. If you can return with the antidote then I can act to crush these evil men. But without it I am doomed and so is my daughter. If they find out that you are going for the cure they will stop at nothing to kill you. So what say you now that you know the truth. Will you complete the task I have asked of you?"

"Of course I shall!" exclaims Oskarn. "I am a man of my word. But Herr Grunwald's men are well armed and well trained, and I fear I shall need more funds to purchase superior weapons and armor if I am to withstand their assaults and bring back the antidote your daughter so deperately requires. It will do little good to stint on gold now, only to have your hero perish en route to his destination."
