Yi Gi Oh....addictive for adults?

Well...I have to ask this question, because I am aware of a friend that watches the cartoon series, he has told me in seriousness, he gets the shakes watching it, because the content is soooo, intense.

And, he has told me also. that he and another will not be watching the next season, to protect their health.

Wow...on that note, I know now, he is not kidding.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Wow, your friend needs help if that is too intense for him. The card game is mildly amusing, but getting the shakes seriously. It does sound like a good idea that your friend doesn't watch anymore of it. On that note he probably shouldn't watch any tv if that show effects him that way. Other better show will give this kid a heartattack.

Well, I hope that will be the case, on a funnier note, we are going to see the movie in 33 minutes...LOL.

Wha...? Yugioh? The dubbed version? Wha?

Don't get me wrong. The original is a good show, got butchered for the kids' version, but it's about a card game. Everyone stands around popping veins and sounding constipated and dramatically shouting for things to attack. And that's about it.

I've only watched the dubbed American version and enjoy it for what it is. I understand it is geared towards children so the dialogue will sound very cliched, over the top, and alot of the times a bit too goody-goody. I enjoy cliched plots and over the top acting, it's a formula for anime after all, but the goody-goodness of the American version can get grating after one show. It is dripping with candy-coated "love your friends and neighbors" ideals, which I wouldn't mind so much if wasn't always shoved in your face

I do enjoy the duels very much, especially how the contestants are always "popping veins", yelling out their next attack, and explaining how a particular move will work or stop another player's attack. While entertaining, I don't see how it could cause the "shakes" however.

IMO all Yi Gi Oh is is the Japenese ripping off Magic:TG and repackaging it for kids.

Well, I guess the same could be said for many of the other card games out there. I didn't really hear of any before Magic came along.

In terms of anime, there is no Magic: The Gathering The Animated series, so I think Yu-Gi-Oh is safe from being considered a rip-off. On the other hand there is another anime series out there called Duel Masters or Monsters, I forget which, which seems like a blatant rip-off of Yu-Gi-Oh. Thing is, I'm not sure which came out first though.

Well, seeing the point of the show is to get kids to buy cards for the game, it is a rip off, IMO.

I wouldn't call it a rip off, I would call it "advertising" or "marketing" in my opinion. Same thing for the Transformers cartoon, GI Joes, Pokemon, etc. I think one reason for cartoons is to cause children to watch the show and want to by the products associated with the show as a result.

Besides, I think Yu-Gi-Oh is geared towards children, while Magic is geared towards an older audience.

My definition of rip off usually means getting an original idea and trying to pass it off as your own, similar to how Hana Barbera ripped off Transformers by making the Go Bots.
