Your dream dungeon...

Kudos for a cool thread :)

I've always wanted to run a literal "dream" dungeon ala the Breath of Fire rpg series. There's some important piece of knowledge (LIKE the true name of an ancient undead creature) that only the world tree Yggdrasil remembers. As the party goes to find the answer they find the world tree cursed into sleeping and unable to wake up.

They have to find the magic to travel into the tree's dreams and defeat the nightmare-monster causing the sleep. But first, they have to travel through an idyllic, early version of the world that becomes increasingly corrupted as they get closer to the source of the nightmares.

I guess, for me, the "dream dungeon" has it all.

Give me the political/intrigue/mystery bit...the dungeon crawl to find that "key" bit of info or item needed...run through all kinds of terrain/settings (water, land, air, dream/astral, planar, wherever)...humor and whimsy...and defeat the BBEG from destroying/conquering the world...and throw in some blond-haired plastic golems and a pink bismuth dragon just for kicks. lol.

Make me (or the players, if I'm DMing) feel like the "epic hero" no matter what we're doing...even if I'm only 3rd level.

Thanks to all who responded and all of those who have yet to respond (apologies to those I must "spread it around..." before XPing you :( and thanks to kyomera for covering MarkCMG ;) )

EDIT: "kAomera" not "lyomera." Apologies. But thanks all the same. :)

My dream dungeon would be similar to the old computer game System Shock, a persistent multi-level horror crawl with a strong antagonist in control of it all who teases and taunts the PCs, rants at them, unleashes monsters on them and has a good number of contingency plans, all while the PCs get to read the diaries and letters of the villain's previous victims...

The party tracks a band of brigands into the mazeworks under the city, only to find it leads deeper than they thought. While filled with a cultist society thats been stealing "brides" (and grooms) from the surface, its laced with all sorts of abberations and undead - and the fantastic treasures and strange treasures of a lost age.

Delving deeper and deeper in search of greater treasure and artifact-level treasures, the party soon comes to realize they've pierced beneath the ocean floor and the city they've been plundering is ancient Ry'leth....

...And they've just woken up the doorkeeper...

These are the kind of threads I need to pay more attention to.

Behold...the dungeon cometh

Yeah, this has become my new project to publish, though I will probably do it initially as a pathfinder adventure (maybe Savage Worlds and Labryinth Lord if I can swing it).

The big question will be, how quick can I put this together (I'm expecting this to cover at least 1st -12th level in PF), and can I get a large-ish company to bite on printing this...

Maybe you should talk with the publisher of LotFP, as he might be interested in that adventure. Other old-school publishers might also be interested.

Anyhow, is the dungeon's underground lake connected to the sea outside the city, and, if so, how come that the water level in it is lower than the sea level? Alien pumping machinery in R'lyeh pulling the water out?

I was assuming no direct connection to the sea. I was thinking that the floating tower (which is bobbing above a fountain of water) would be some sort of half-working pump - giving the PCs one way getting rid of the danger would be to eventually find the way to completely flood the underground area and drive out the cultists and such. (that could also mean that the "waterfall" shown in that area is flowing "up")
