Your first character with a Prestige Class

What was the first character you played that had a Prestige Class? How did it go?

I had an Arcane Trickster, by accident, but when I realized I had all the pre-reqs without actually working towards it, I took it. It worked out well for my character concept. I think to this day that is the only prestige class I have had despite all the different characters I have been through.

The 1st I ever played was a wizard who became an elemental savant. I enjoyed it well enough, but was always vaguely dissatisfied by the class' abilities.

I had much better luck with my next two, a wizard candle caster and, especially, my samurai iaijutsu master in my wife's Rokugan campaign.

To date, Kakita Toru is still my favorite character of all time - never lost a duel, never slew an opponent in a duel, and never failed to act with honor. And for his troubles, he ended up wed to the head of the Mantis Clan (though we didn't realize it at the time. My wife had a habit of using cards from the L5R ccg as inspiration for NPCs, and we knew the woman was Mantis, but not that she would become clan head.)

Haven't run a PC with a prc yet.

I've only rarely used them as DM -- I think my first was a Red Wizard of Thay. They're a pain in the butt to use. I wish each PrC description came with a very clear statement like: "The lowest level build that can get into this PrC is a 5th level half-elven ranger with feats X, Y and Z and max ranks in skills A, B, and C." Figuring out the requirements is sometimes a pain even with electronic character tools.

The first character I played with a PrC is a Spy. I didn't plan on it; I was using a highly social character (bluff, diplomacy, that sort of stuff) who based his limited combat prowess on mobility and sneak attacks, and I decided to look for a PrC for a social rogue in Song & Silence. There was nothing, except for this Spy, which didn't look like much. I took it anyway, and it kinda works, but I'd like something better for social characters in D&D.

The only PC I think I ever had with a PrC was a Jedi Investigator in a star wars game. It was in a rather investigative game, so he ended up being the munchkin while the Jedi Weapons Master sat on the sideline...

Lots of NPCs with prestige classes. I think the first one I did was an eccentric druid loremaster NPC.

I'm doing something along those lines for Ronin Arts right now, actually.

I had a bard that needed some more omph with his whip and with fighting so I eventually took 4 levels of the Lasher class from old Sword and Fist.

The first for me was in Star Wars d20. He was a Soldier/Jedi Guardian/Elite Trooper. Dangerous during the late Rebellion Era and very fun.

For D&D, it was Arcane Trickster. I didn't actually plan for it, but the character just kind of went that direction. He'd started out as a Rogue(10 levels) and due to some in game events, Sorcerer just fit for him. That naturallly led into Arcane Trickster.
