Your original die

my first couple of sets are lost, and have been for years. I really wish I still had my 3rd set, from gamescience.

Mine are a red set that I colored with the yellow crayon they came with in my Basic Set.

My d20 from that set is the grizzled old veteran of my dice army. Most of the time he rides along with the younger dice telling stories from the old days when a natural 20 didn't mean you had to roll again to see if you scored a critical hit. When the time comes and I really need a roll to pull my bacon from the fire, I call up that old vet and let him show the young'ns how it is really done.

I don't (I've lost my original set over the years) but I still have one left - my original d6. I put it with my spare dice for safe keeping.

Do you have/remember your first die?

I still have every die I've ever bought except for 5 sets that were given away over the years as gifts.

I no longer use the ones I got in my first boxed D&D rules set.
I still use the 1st 20 sider I bought after getting tired of the ones that came with the boxed set - a purple crystal 20 sider with white numbers, still my favorite die, I use it for all my important rolls.

About 5 months ago I gave my 5 year old nephews their first set of dice - they haven't lost them yet.

Still have the my original dice from 1975. They need marker or crayon to fill in the numbers and the 1s and 7s are nearly indistinguishable from each other. I don't use them anymore, except for the d20, which I have dubbed 'Ole Ugly' (from its appearance). Ole Ugly can roll natural D20 better than any other D20 I have used.

I still have 3 or 4 of my original 6 dice. I know that at least one of the lost ones fell victim to the dog and another the vacuum cleaner.

My first dice were chits. Beyond that it's hard to remember except I do recall that we had to ink the d20s because they were numbered 0-9 twice (and thus could double for d10s, which were not around at that time).

I had the little plastic ones that you could use a crayon and fill in the stamped number depressions. I hated those. Too small, too light, no bounce. (no bounce/no play?)

So the first set of real dice that I had was (I think chessex) they were gray smoke and looked very similar to these http://www.chessex.com/Dice/Translucent/23008.htm but I think the numbers were different and the edges were rounder...Over 20 years ago.

They've fallen into my 'big yellow bowl full of dice' since I found my 'lucky' dice that I use now. They are not weighted or anything, but they roll really nicely for me.

While I looked around the store, he rolled it several times on the floor. He called out the number he got each time. We bought the die and took it home. He is taking good care not to loose it this time. He has sat in our den rolling the die across the floor (6 plus-foot rolls), calling out the number each time.

Sounds like natural craps player. Take him to Vegas!

I was given the basic set without the dice, so my first dice set was from the expert set...I never coloured them in with the crayon cause I thought that was stupid and I've always been able to read them fine. I have all save the d4 and d10. They were multi coloured, d4 purple, d6 dark blue, d8 light green, d10, light blue, and d20 light blue. I don't know if this was standard or not...it always seemed a bit odd for colours...and I've heard conlicting reports from other people. But, there were different printings. I still keep them with my Chalice-o-Dice.
