Depends on your wizard I'd say. I know a few that cast Globes like they were going out of style.

Sure, but all in all it's a rare sight. Most opponents won't be wizards (etc), and many wizards won't be using it, which leaves only very few situations, where it makes a difference. :)

Uhm I've had a few wizard NPCs that used it against PCs... But then again that's just me.

Especially if you have psionics in your game.

I have seen globes be very prevalent with some casters and not so much with others. Depends on the build that people are going for.

They tend to be much better for npcs than pcs in my experience, but then many things in the game tend to be better for one side or the other ;)

How about an educated guess about the percentage of encounters in a given campaign, where this came into play.

< 1% ?

Kindof like pretty much every build in a well rounded campaign?

Still though, if mages who defend their home and have a little room they hide is common then it happens pretty often. If not.. then not. Makes sense to me ;)

Globes were much more prevalent in 2e. Just about every wizard encounter in Baldur's Gate 2 will use Globes (unless you kill the wizards before they get any spells off).
