The character that wasn't meant to be?

Any 3.x multiclass that wasn't taken specifically to qualify for a prestige class. I ran a Goblin Sorcerer-Rogue in a 3E game who was horribly underpowered. His only saving grace was some good RP on my part which led to some powerful contacts, and the fact that he was the only stealthy...

    Bane - Bows and Arrows

Please check the assumption at the top... I'm referring to effective bonus here. Although I could have been clearer. Telas

    Bane - Bows and Arrows

The topic's been drifting... As the OP, let me restate and update. Assume that we're using the Bane effect on the appropriate target. A +1 Bane arrow fired from a +5 bow is +5 Bane. Is a +5 arrow fired from a +1 Bane bow a +7 Bane arrow, or a +5 Bane arrow? Someone on another list pinged...

    Bane - Bows and Arrows

Two issues here... I agree that there should be no difference between the bow and sword. That's cool. The question is whether the +1 Bane bow pushes a +5 arrow to +7 (against the apropos critter), or if it is treated as a +3 bow firing a +5 arrow (with additional Bane damage). Telas

    Bane - Bows and Arrows

OK, from the SRD: A bane weapon excels at attacking one type or subtype of creature. Against its designated foe, its effective enhancement bonus is +2 better than its normal enhancement bonus. It deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against the foe. Bows, crossbows, and slings so crafted bestow...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

Heh. That exact thing happened, since I missed the AoO (yes, it was my barbarian in the square). This was a month or so ago, and I was raging, so my memory may be hazy. He became conscious, grabbed for his axe, took a swing and missed (IIRC). I sent him to his ancestors the next round, then...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

Hell, yes. :p I'm proud of my five-page (and growing) thread. I know where my opinion is on the matter. I'm just curious as to what the rest of y'all think, and how you got there. Regardless of what side you pick on this debate, you kinda have to split hairs. I don't think...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

If you're using an online SRD, search for "Hold the Charge". Thanee - What modifiers would you give the touch attack? +4 for prone/helpless? -4 for cover? 0 Dex (-5 AC)? Would the defender's BAB/Dex/whatever apply? Thanks, Telas

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

100% agreement. D&D is not about the rules, nor about the interpretations. That's for after the game (or before the game for the prescient). I think Vraille has elucidated my thoughts on the subject: anything coming into your square that's not engaged in combat with you may receive an AoO...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

...because that's what feet are for... ;) Seriously, thanks to everyone who posted/will post to this thread. I got a lot of information, and have a good idea on how I'd handle it. I really appreciate the fact that it didn't devolve into a flamewar, despite opposing opinions. Telas (who'd...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

No, you're not. You're reaching down in a square occupied by an opponent to touch something; roughly the same action as if you were picking something up. The spell was cast outside of combat. No, that's an attack, with a chance of failure. By that basis, standing over the body of the...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

Let's not get wrapped around the "casting a spell" part of the scenario... the cleric cast it when he was out of the threatened area. Hypersmurf made an excellent point with the Cat and Ogre Show, but I could just as easily answer "yes, it does trigger an AoO". Just because two things share...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

As a tangent, the barbarian missed, but the same situation rose later in the combat when one of the enemy survivors cast Teleport from a scroll and got whacked while reaching out for her comrades (that we were standing over). The DM ruled that the spell went off, but she arrived dead. That's...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

There seem to be three schools on this: 1. It draws an AoO, since the cleric is both exposed and has to turn his attention to the fallen buddy. Reaching into someone else's square draws the AoO, not the spell. 2. By virtue of making an attack roll, the cleric does not draw an AoO, so the...

Is this an Attack of Opportunity?

We went around and around on this discussion, and finally allowed it with a DC15 Dex check (for the session), but is this an attack of opportunity? A fighter takes a bad guy down to negative hit points, and steps forward to stand over his body. The bad guy's cleric-buddy casts "cure moderate...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Deflect Arrows clarification

Yeah, that's kind of the point; I think the feat should be nerfed a bit, but I'm not sure how much. It seems to be a regular target of house rules. I would like to come up with a hard-and-fast rule, like "you can't deflect anything over x pounds, and it has to have a haft or handle of some...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Deflect Arrows clarification

The SRD seems to imply that Deflect Arrows can block anything short of a Huge Crossbow or siege weaponry. In kicking it around, I'm thinking of what can actually be deflected. I'm thinking anything that weighs one pound or less, and has a "safe area" that can be hit to deflect it. So...

    Would you have allowed this?

Not to quibble, but it really depends on your campaign setting, doesn't it? It is a good thread, though. Telas
