Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

Unfortunately not, but the core book should be available in January.

Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

I'm one of the coauthors and the editor of the Blue Rose core book, and the magic system is indeed based on The Psychic's Handbook, with changes to fit Blue Rose's mood and mechanical differences from D&D. Steve Kenson designed Blue Rose's rules. There's none of this in Blue Rose. Arcana are...

Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

The intent for the game has always been to wed setting and rules material in a single book.

Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

The main purpose of Blue Rose is to model the kind of fantasy found in the novels of Mercedes Lackey, Tamora Pierce, Diane Duane, and others--a kind of fantasy with a large audience but with little representation in RPGs. For those not interested in that genre, there's plenty of crunch: a...

Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

Blue Rose is definitely in that tradition of romantic fantasy. Mercedes Lackey's novels have been key references for us, in terms of style, while developing the game.

Blue Rose fast-play rules are up

It's a typo. Brianna's longsword should have a +5 damage bonus. Her shield should have a +3 attack bonus and a +1 damage bonus, assuming she uses it in her off hand.

Which PHB race doesn't fit into YOUR fantasy campaign?

I agree. The gnome has analogs in folklore and mythology, whereas the quasi-kender halfling has none. It isn't even related to the hobbit. I look at the 3e halfling and I think, "If I wanted kender in my game, I'd go all the way." (Mind you, I don't dislike kender.)

    Monte Cook reviews 3.5

Errors in the revised books I've had the three revised books for a week now and have, for the most part, been pleased and, in some cases, excited by what's in them. The books do, alas, contain errors, from typos to substantive mistakes. While disappointing, the number of errors is at least...

    [3.5] DMG - changes Q&A?

Of the three revised books, I find the DMG to be the most impressive, in terms of the amount of new material and its increase in usefulness. Also, to me as a DM, there are portions of the book that are downright inspiring, particularly the "Adventures" and "Campaigns" chapters. I'll take a stab...

Kitchen sink review of 3.5 PHB

In the new Player's Handbook, the specific Knowledge skills are still listed together, but with more information than before.

Kitchen sink review of 3.5 PHB

Re: Re: Re: spell changes? Yeah, unfortunately the conversion guide is a little glitchy. Another example: it says rage turned into emotion (rage), when the opposite is true.

Kitchen sink review of 3.5 PHB

Re: spell changes? Bless weapon is a transmutation spell in 3.5, not a necromancy spell.

    3.5 Dungeon 100 info

d20 Modern strikes again, assuming the shield bonus was added on top of the mage armor bonus. In d20 Modern, shield gives a +4 bonus to Defense.

    3.5 Dungeon 100 info

If the stat buff spells follow d20 Modern, as it appears they will, their durations will not only be 1 minute/level; they'll also have their enhancement bonuses fixed at +5, rather than being random (1d4+1). It's fun to look through d20 Modern and, in some ways, already have revised D&D.

    Just got Midnight

I actually prefer the black-and-white pages. Perhaps they convey the dark mood well for me. I'm almost done reading the book, and to use its terms, I'd call the world a rare magic world, rather than a low or no magic world. Magic items are definitely hard to come by, but magic use is another...

    (CoC) Anyone Play Yet?

I'd like to remark on something tangential to the verboten gun issue. It bears repeating that attitudes on firearms in the United States vary wildly from region to region. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the prevalence of guns in the South, as reported in this thread, is as foreign to...

    (CoC) Anyone Play Yet?

I played last night for the first time and had a great time. This was largely because the GM did an excellent job and all of us players were in fine role-playing form, but it was also because the system worked well. We haven't used the magic system yet, but someone already went temporarily...
