    Eschew matrerials works with this spell - a single bolt has a value of 1sp, it's even specified as such in SC. Ray of frost is a ranged touch, Launch bolt is a regular ranged attack. Sure it's a d8 as opposed to a d3, but the AC difference alone counters this.
