    Interrupting a Funeral

COFFIN HEIST! The PCs are hired to steal the coffin from under the noses of the officials - because it doesn't contain a diplomat's (or whatever) body -- it contains gold! Gives them loads of brain juice to plan it, use a clever system to get round the security and have a right good laugh...

SE London 4e game looking for players

Hey guys A couple of players of 4e here, (one DM... me... one player, flatmate) looking for anyone in South East London, England to try and re-establish a regular DnD group. (The last one is crumbling away through various personal reasons.) We're planning to start a level 1 campaign, small and...

Sure it's not a skills challenge in disguise? Do an Arcana check!!

    D&D 4E Seamanship in 4e

IMO... If you really want to make a skills challenge out of every SINGLE trip to somewhere using a boat, you can just follow the guidelines in the DMG, fluffing it as you go - but if your parties good enough they will tell you the skills they want to use. Quick skills and related fluff I can...

    D&D 4E Secret Doors in 4E

It's completely up to you - you could introduce some puzzle mechanic in with the secret door, and then throw in some XP in there... Just remember that if the group take a short rest, and look round the chamber, it's assumed they'll roll until the crit, so show them everything, (or work out how...

    Favourite Warlock Pact

Star pact... simply because the Starlock in our party whispers "42" whenever he uses Dreadful Word.

    Toughest critter in 4e

A void wraith is pretty mean at 9th level (addition in Open Grave). Insubstantial, Immune disease + poison, resist 5 necrotic... REGEN 5!! Half damage and Regen? Who ever said 4e combats grinded...

Photos of the new Gnome (PHB2)

Too damn thin... too damn thin!! They look like a simplified Fey Halfling... not the usual Gnome look we're used to.

    Battlemats

I can recommend the Chessex battlemat. If you're in the UK SquashGoblin.com is a good site for them - they're irregular (meaning their cut so you don't get about 2 squares you should do) but that's still 26x26inches and you can use OHP pens to draw out the dungeon.

    Gambling

I ran a mini-skills challenge for a game of poker as Bluff checks, but I was willing to use something else the player could back up logically. Capmbell's write up looks sound, I might even use it in the future.

    Question on the Lich template

I'd say it's only for the use of recharging spells - not matrial or devine power sources. But that's me being pickey ;)

    Fighting a black dragon...

I can't tell you why or how... I played the Dragon exactly as described in the MM under tactics... the party I DM for had no trouble at the same level as the Young Black Dragon. They were all melee based. :S

    D&D 4E 4e adventure for 10 & 11 year olds

In the back of the DM manual is Kobold's Hall - a side quest set in the landscape of H1-Keep on the Shadowfell. I'd recommend starting with that - its nice for level 1, and I believe you do finally get to hit a dragon at the end of the dungeon crawl. That's a good start, it's probably a good...

    Crafting aboard a ship

If you want a mechanic fix for this, make it a skills challenge with dexterity and arcane checks... I'd make it quite hard because of the seafairing conditions. Also remember that it might affect how far the group can travel in a day because of the number needed to crew the ship effectively.

Bonus for Holding the High Ground?

No horrible consequences... just I don't see any particular advantage in the mechanics for it happening all the time. I think it's just a personal thing, it tends to be that when I give my players an inch, they take a mile, and will ask for it all the time. Stuff like jumping on a table, or on...

Two-blades ranger with two bastards - kosher?

By their design, Scimitars have a single-handed grip. I wouldn't let a halfling use it even if he was a 2 blade ranger... simply enough: they're heavy blades - he'd just about be able to use one squeezing both hands into the handgaurd. Again, I think its perfectly legal, but one of those...

    Multiclassing into Beasmaster Ranger

Would there be any way to multiclass into the new beastmaster ranger? Would any DM allow a modification to the multiclassing feat, so instead of gaining the Hunter's Quarry 1/encounter class feature, they gain a beast companion but without any of the powers? So you could use it to move, flank...

Bonus for Holding the High Ground?

In the DM manual there's reference to something like 'By a quick rule of thumb if there's a situation where a character would have a bonus use a +2 to the roll, if they're impaired in some way use a -2" I'd say DM discretion... or impliment a house rule of +1 or +2. I'd only use this is extreme...
