Sounds like a good change to me. I would rather wait longer than a year between movies and get a better product than get shovelware every Xmas.

Also, I have to imagine that the success of the TV/streaming series has had a major effect on this. The "release one a year" model was more important when the movie was the main thing propping up the franchise. When you have things like The Mandalorian to keep fans happy, it makes it less important to feed them blockbusters to stay at the forefront of sci-fi culture.

At this point I could care less. Its probably for the better. With Disney+ releasing series I think the franchise has become over saturated and my interest isnt there anymore as much as it once was. I think a few years or downtime might actually be a good thing.

Might end up being true, but that's a really terrible source there. Just a very bad writer riffing on the fact that Waititi isn't done with a script...

From what I have read elsewhere, the only movie script ready to shoot is Rogue Squadron and that did get delayed a bit so Patty Jenkins could finish another movie first. But I don't think anything else is past the scriptwriting stage, so there is nothing to delay.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Cathleen Kennedy's current contract ends in 2024.

Folks just need to think critically about sourcing, even for trivial stuff like entertainment news. All sources are not equal, by any stretch.
