The Fantasy Trip: Decks of Destiny Interview with Phil Reed (CEO Steve Jackson Games)

Through the Quickstarter article I did on EN World, I met Phil Reed, CEO of Steven Jackson Games and, from time-to-time, I ask him to share his thoughts. With their current Kickstarter for The Fantasy Trip: Decks of Destiny live, it’s the right time to do a full-blown interview. What follows is a discussion of Decks of Destiny, TFT in general, the second issue of their TFT zine, Hexagram, demand for TFT print over PDF, tariffs, and how publishers will be able to utilize their Pocket Box packaging for their products.

RPG Crowdfunding News: Good Society, Four Perilous Journeys, ORPHEUS, UltraModern5, and more

Between June 7th to 13th (overlapping Origins Game Fair and leading into Free RPG Day weekend), at least 16 RPG and RPG-related crowdfunding projects end. Below are nine of those and three from prior weeks that I wanted to make sure got a shout out before they end.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Empire of the Ghouls, Traveller, The Fantasy Trip, Big Bad Con, and more

May 31st to June 6th sees the end of nearly 30 RPG crowdfunding projects including the newly extended Kingmaker project. Projects from Steve Jackson Games, Paizo, Kobold Press, and many more end end during those seven days. From among that distinguished crowd, I look at eleven of them.

RPG Crowdfunding News - Kingmaker, A Town Called Malice, Fantasy Grounds Unity, Tunnels & Trolls Gra

The following 11 RPG-related crowdfundings end between May 24th and 30th (Paizo’s Kingmaker is an exception since I missed it last week). Looking at RPGs, an RPG-related comic, and an RPG convention, there are options for every type of gamer this week.

RPGs, Russia, and The City of the Steam Sun on IndieGoGo

I get messages and emails from RPG creators daily. Occasionally one stands out for a unique reason. The email from Gleb “Crazy Sage” Igumnov sharing the press release for his IndieGoGo for The City of the Steam Sun for Savage Worlds stood out because Crazy Sage is from Russia. My knowledge of Russia would probably cover two Tweets as I know nothing about the nation. So, I asked Crazy Sage about it and what follows is our discussion of gaming in Russia as well as his RPG, The City of the Steam Sun.

Interview with Jason Massey (Dungeons and Randomness) about The Adventurer’s Guide To Theria: Ellara

What happens when a popular Dungeons & Dragons actual play podcast decides to Kickstart their campaign setting into a book for the fans? To get a sense of what that would be like, I ask Jason Massey of the Dungeons and Randomness podcast about their upcoming setting book for for Theria, The Adventurer’s Guide To Theria Volume One: Ellara, as well as their annual 12-hour live stream, “TheriaThon”, and where you can catch them live in 2019.

RPG Kickstarter News – Fate of Cthulhu, Endless Realms, First Kings, Paths, The Cthulhu Alphabet, an

Between May 17th and 23rd, there are at least 20 RPG related-crowdfunding projects ending. From that list, I look at 12 RPGs and accessories.
There are over 20 RPG and RPG-related crowdfunding projects ending between May 10th and 16th. Spotlighted below are 11 of those including 3 that raised six-figures worth of pledges (as of this writing).

RPG Crowdfunding News – Ultimate Bestiary, Rifts (Savage Worlds): American Armageddon, The Blackest

This week we look at 11 RPGs ending between May 3rd to the 9th. This list includes RPG projects offered through Kickstarter and, for the first time on this list, Game On Tabletop. What is Game On Tabletop? It’s a crowdfunding site dedicated to tabletop games offering a tighter focus than the other crowdfunding sites. For their first time on the list, we lead with DARK CONSPIRACY: A ROLEPLAYING GAME OF SUPERNATURAL HORROR.

RPG Crowdfunding News - Critical Core, The Grande Temple of Jing, Fellowship, Party Backstory Genera

This list opens with two RPG Kickstarters that are education-based. Critical Core focuses on children along the spectrum, something important to me, and STEAM Hack hopes to inspire the next generation of scientists. Beyond these two great projects, The Grande Temple of Jing boasts one of the strongest lineups of creators I’ve seen including Jonathan Tweet, Monte Cook, Ed Greenwood, Jim Ward, Chris Pramas, Grimtooth, and more. There are more RPG Kickstarters ending between April 26th and May 2nd listed here, as well as some RPG accessories I could not get to like DoubleSix Dice: Generation Two, but let’s dive into these eleven.

Seas of Vodari Kickstarter Interview with Shawn Ellsworth of Tribality

When the owner of an ENnie Award-nominated site like Tribality reached out to share a nautical-themed D&D 5e project they have on Kickstarter, I had questions. To hear that a publisher like Tribality is on the same wavelength as Wizards of the Coast and planning a book dedicated to 5e and the sea, I wanted to know more. What started as curiosity became an interview about Seas of Vodair, a 5e campaign setting on Kickstarter that ends tomorrow (Friday, April 12 2019 1:53 PM EDT).

RPG Crowdfunding News – Critical Role, Contagion Chronicles, Forbidden Library, Castles & Cats, and

Between April 19th and 25th, there are at least 18 RPG and RPG-related Kickstarters ending. Of those, I look at ten including the largest animation/RPG project ever on Kickstarter, Critical Role, as well as five third-party products for Dungeons & Dragons, two original systems, some odds and ends, and a Storyteller game. Let’s kick it off with:

RPG Crowdfunding News – Arcana of the Ancients, Seas of Vodari, Ultraviolet Grasslands, Ultimate Sph

The number of Kickstarters have decreased from the highs of February and March. Between April 12th and the 18th, there are 9 RPG Kickstarters and 1 RPG zine ending, all covered below. 5e sees products for the seas, Numenera, and more, there’s original systems, one of the largest Pathfinder 1e products in some time, and a convention for you to back.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Witch+Craft, Traveller, Swordsfall, Humblewood, Symbar, CAPERS Noir, Mythea,

With the end (more or less) of Zine Quest, it’s time to shine the spotlight on the RPG Kickstarters ending between April 5th and the 11th. I’m covering 11 RPG Kickstarters, 1 gaming convention, and 4 RPG zines, and yet, that’s not all of them that are available. That said, it’s a large percentage so let’s dive in.

RPG Crowdfunding News - Snowheaven, The Veil: Inheritance, Manifest the RPG, Basic and Expert, and m

This week I sample a handful of RPG Kickstarters from among the 25 ending between March 29th and April 4th. As well, I have some quick links to 18 RPG zines (the last large grouping of them from Kickstarter’s Zine Quest). Adventures, 5e, reprints, Powered by the Apocalypse, there’s something for everyone among this ocean of RPG content.

RPG Crowdfunding News – Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2, Mercenaries Spies & Private Eyes, Gods, and Enli

In this article, I cover RPG Kickstarters ending between March 22nd and 28th including projects from Flying Buffalo and Steve Jackson Games along with translations of games from France, some enlightenment punk from England, and 15 zines. This is not an exhaustive list as there are at least 5 more RPG Kickstarters beyond these, and that’s just for this timeframe. As it has been since the start of February, it’s a spoil of RPG riches on Kickstarter.
