I started out creating campaigns that I would have enjoyed playing in, but over time I've moved more towards campaigns that I believe my players will enjoy playing in (which isn't to say I wouldn't enjoy playing in them, but rather that it's no longer my main impetus). As such, I believe that the approach can change over time as a DM becomes more experience.
