He straightens, and flexes his back and arms for the next round, when suddenly he hears a noise. Heavy footfalls are coming from behind the door where he stands.

Ogrin hesitates for a split second - does he know those footsteps as friend or foe? He listens to see if he can recognize the pace, the sound of armour clinking, the mutterings of an annoyed dwarf... if so, he calls out a warning that the door is trapped. If not, he attempts to hide by flatten himself to the wall near the doorway and sneak through unnoticed when the door opens from the other side.

Beamer & Eusebius get the jump on their enemy, who does not try to attack first. They have merely moved towards the duo. Torvin calls out "Hold. Your lives can be spared. Just give us the weapon."
But Beamer and Eusebius have already decided on their actions. They move East, Eusebius taking the lead, and Beamer hitting the assassins with a glitterdust spell, not for the first time.

Lothar is blinded, and his armed crossbow swings about uselessly. Sangster manages to close his eyes at the last minute and is largely unaffected. He is armed with a longsword and a small wooden shield.

"Fools, you must die!" shouts Torvin.

Initative:
Lothar: 23
Sangster: 19
Eusebius: 13
Beamer 8
Torvin 5

Lothar stumbles back towards the bridge, moving slowly, and using his left hand to feel his way.

Spot check DC 8 [sblock]Lothar seems to be leaning against some invisible barrier along the inside of the platform, above the railing, which keeps him from tumbling into the pit below[/sblock]

Sangster turns tail and flees around the circle.

-------------

Razh has defeated his living reflection. It was as tough a battle as he has ever fought, and he stands, heaving, beside the mirror. Beyond the mirror he can now see a black curtain against the wall.

By chance does he look back into the mirror? Or examine his hand?

Beamer is oblivious to any subtleties of the situation.

"You will not have the weapon while I yet draw breath!" Beamer shouts with unusual fervor.

Beamer moves forward some more while pulling a ball that quickly becomes a Brown Bear from his Bag of Tricks while pointing at the blinded Lothar and saying, "Sick 'em, boy".

OOC:
spot check (1d20+2=5)
Move 20 feet forward (to Eusebius's position at the start of the round). Then pull an animal (Animal from bag (1d100=30)) from his bag of tricks and toss it forward (2 uses of the Bag).

Ogrin doesn't think the footsteps are from Razh. They come from at least one heavy creature. He presses himself against the wall, but notices that the door opens away from him; the hinges are on the other side. Thus he would have no cover. He could retreat to hide behind one of the statues. There is a statue in each alcove. Map attached.

----------

Banion moves back to the end of the hallway, so he's about 30 feet from the knight. He hurls his mindblade, which deflects off the knight's heavy armor.

"Hey!" shouts the Knight. "Thou attackest me! Thy life is forfeit! The Black Knight always triumphs!" Hefting his greatsword, the knight braces to charge.

(Banion wins init & can act again.)

Retreat - the better part of valor. Ogrin jumps in behind the nearest statue and hides. He also examines the statue to see if it seems joined with its foundation or if its stands loose atop it and can be pushed on top of a passing creature...

OOC: Hide roll: 26

Total defense is a standard action. Banion is going to to into full defense & allow the knight to strike first?

Indeed. The little halfling is well aware that his strengths don't lend themselves well to a stand up fight, and has no intention of actually fighting the black night. He only threw the first mindblade to draw the knight out of position, any damage done would have been incidental.
