It seems that the One Ring failed his save vs Spells 'Silence 15' radius'

This is unfortunate. Hopefully he'll jump back in one of these days . . .

Ooh! Ooh! I'm interested! Any more ideas on what the adventure will be?

The PCs will start off as intermediaries and messengers eventually learning a horrible truth and will eventually have to confront the BBEG in his underground mansion (read: dungeon) .

I've been around lurking. I've been pretty busy with work.

Continue to ask questions and create characrcters. I'll be around most of the weekend checking in on this thread every once in a while.

I'm totally down for this. Count me in. Now let's see about some stats.

STR 12, DEX 14, CON 14, INT 12, WIS 11, CHA 5

Hmm, not very impressive. Due to my 5 Charisma I am practically forced to play an assassin. Oh well, I like a challenge and assassins are fun.

Thieves' Cant

[sblock=Background]Anitus has had a very difficult life. Born and raised on the streets, he has learned first-hand that might makes right, and only those with the initiative to seize what their hearts desire can ever have it. Though he was never exceptionally skilled, he was driven by a burning desire to climb up out of the streets and make something of himself. At the mere age of 11 he insinuated himself into a gang of petty thieves on the city streets of Verbobonc and learned their techniques while plying a trade as an errand boy.

In the meantime, Anitus trained himself on how to kill. He partially learned from what the thieves had taught him about sneaking up on foes to stab them in the back. But critically wounding his enemies was not enough. Anitus desired nothing less than a final solution in combat for those who stood in his way of treasure and glory. As he practiced, his evident bloodlust soon earned the notice of one of the assassin's guild masters who immediately ordered the youth to be taken off the streets and placed into "proper" training.

Anitus still remembers the night of his first kill. It was a gnome who had failed to uphold his bargain with the Thieves' Guild for protection money and had hired mercenaries instead. The thieves had contacted the assassins and put a hit out on the gnome. It was the perfect job for a youth like Anitus to wet his blade upon. Anitus will never forget the look upon the gnome's face as he realized that what he thought was one of his trusted mercenaries was in fact, the last face he would ever see. Anitus drew his now warm blade from the gnome's gut and wiped it upon his cloak. It was a clean kill, and the other mercenaries outside would not be the wiser until morning, when he would be long gone.

Much has happened to Anitus since then, but he now feels he is ready to spread his wings and see what the world has to offer his aspiring talents. When he left the streets he was but a youth with nothing but ambition. Now he had taken life for profit; and reveled in it. He never slept so well at night as he did after a "job." And he was certain the future held more for him.[/sblock]

Sweet another character with a 5 charisma.

I need to mull over some personality a little. Need to think of alignment and stuff, anyone else have thoughts? I think I'll name my horse Greymane. (Gorak is so creative.)

If you choose half-orc as your race, the only class you are eligible for is assassin. It is the only class that doesn't have at least Cha 6 as a prerequisite. Even fighter requires Cha 6. It is one of the more limiting parts of 1st edition, but if you go with a different race, your class options open up much more. I think you would qualify for just about any other class besides paladin or druid.

As for alignment, I'm forced to be evil, so I wouldn't recommend Lawful Good. I choose Lawful Evil since it is the evil alignment that I see as being most cooperative within an adventuring party. He won't betray the party out of a sense of personal honor but he won't have scruples about taking the lives of other innocents if they get in the way of an objective; he kills people for money after all. My character will be taking advantage of the assassinate ability as much as possible by trying to sneak ahead and assassinate targets before the rest of the party moves in. So he is definitely a "shoot first and ask questions later" type of guy. Of course, if you choose to be a half-orc assassin, you will probably be better at it than I will because of your high strength giving you bonuses to hit and such. In that case, we might either make a good team or I might leave the assassinations to you and follow in for mop-up duty. Really, my only advantage as a human would be my ability to advance to 15th level whereas you'd get stuck at 11th, but that is nothing that would come into play for a long time.

Airwalkrr: The only classes that need to have any charisma at all in the original 1e PHB are Paladin and Druid (not considering monk and bard).
All the requirements for at least 6 in any stat are all OSRIC isms. (the lowest required stat is 7con for a fighter, thief/mage/cleric all only need a 9 in dex/int/wis respectively.) However seeing as this is labelled as a OSRIC 2 game . . .

TheOneRing what's your ruling?

I should note that I actually roled a 7 for cha. Being a half-orc brought it down to a 5.

I'd still be happy playing a dwarf or human fighter. I'd get to role those percentiles for strength:).
