If you could play in a campaign of your choice, what would it be?

I don't think it does go without saying. Many people around here swear they *won't* play a specific edition of D&D, or will only play some one specific game. Lots of people around here are kinda picky a out what game they play. I'm about the opposite of that.

No doubt! Yeah, I hear you. I would much rather play my non-favorite edition of D&D (from a rules perspective) with an excellent DM and group of players than my favorite edition with a bunch of nincompoops.

I'm not being flip here: One with good people, that lasts more than six months. I'm the GM for my group. While I get to play in one-shots in game days, and I have played in some campaign larps, I don't get to play tabletop campaigns much these days. So, being a game I can play in far, far outstrips the system concern.

Fair enough. I'm not quite as broad as you in that I'm probably not what one could call a "true roleplayer," that is someone that will play anything, that the roleplaying is more important than the genre, themes, etc. I'm more of a fan of fantasy and science fiction than roleplaying itself, so in that sense I don't think I'd be all that excited by the idea of playing My Little Pony: the RPG or Bunny: the Nibbling.

But it really is a balance. For instance, I'm not a huge Cthulhu fan - I'm rather indifferent - but I'd rather play in a Cthulhu game with a good group than a D&D group with a bad group.

But the reason I rephrased the question is that I think you answered a different question. The point of this thread was to hear what themes, campaigns, ideas, etc, people find really inspiring, that they yearn to play in. In that sense it is less about the game and more about the type of game or campaign or story they want to experience.

Hm. Right now I'm reading Watership Down to my wife as she does her needlepoint work. So, "Bunnies and Burrows" would be topical. :)

Yep. I was just sounding off to represent those who yearn to play, period. Maybe if my basic yen was already satisfied, I'd be more picky about the details.

There is a group that plans to use Noble Wild, forming over on the Paizo boards.

As for me, I've always been a closet Steampunk fan. I'd give that a go, if I could manufacture spare time.

Either that, or find someone who will allow my Spellstitched Swarm-Shifter Dread Necromancer Emancipated Spawn Half-Scrag Sea Kin Lacedon with Aboleth Grafts. ;)

Call of Cthulhu: The Masks of Nyar...

I just picked up the module at my FLGS. Amazing how much gaming you could get for less than $20 back in the 80's; it looks like an entire adventure path in one book--including handouts.

[There was a story hour here--with months worth of posts--for this adventure that I started to read when it was nearly finished. That's the kind of campaign I'd like to play in.]

Mage: the Ascension by a GM who knew the rules well enough to fix the many, many bad design decisions, yet preserve the kernel of total awesomeness at the core of the game.
This, or alternatively:
Wraith: Oblivion with a DM _and_ a bunch of players that 'get it'.
Call of Cthulhu: The Masks of Nyar...
I actually got to play CoC _once_, but it was more funny than a typical session of Paranoia, hence I'd like to play it again in an atmosphere that does the subject justice.

Two things I'd like to try:

1. A campaign set in the Half-Continent of D.M. Cornish's Monster Blood Tattoo books.

Monster Blood Tattoo Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Any system will suffice.

2. A massive WFRP/WFB crossover with 20 or more players. Each player would control a WFRP PC and either an entire Warhammer army or several units in a larger army. Each WFRP PC would also be a hero in the player's WFB army.

We'd play a campaign-style WFB game. Players would compete to claim territory on the campaign map, with different hexes providing different bonuses to the faction that claimed them.

Then, we'd use WFRP to run the actions of the PC heroes in between large-scale battles. WFRP PC's would go on scouting missions, explore the territory, etc. Success in the RPG would translate to more power/ability in the Fantasy Battle game.
