Even Newer(er) Tavern Thread: The Hanged Man

Iron Sky

Procedurally Generated
The door busts open and an obesely huge orc enters on a palanquin carried by a horde scrawny goblins. He lounges on a gaudy array of animal furs, colored silks, and thick cotton patchwork quilts. On his head he wears a giant furry hat with what looks like a unicorn horn jutting from the top of it. Aside from that, he wears a gem-encrusted loincloth, a once-white toga, a dozen gold and silver necklaces, and a fine covering of crumbs, food, and wine stains.

"Is time for fighting, yes! Kolloseaum ship is in port, many exciting deaths and fights and blood-slayings we bring you - or you bring us.

"Great opportunity for make wealth if fighting spirits can be brought! You fight in Kolloseaum ship arena and we pay handsomely - if you no die that is. More risks you take, more rewards you make!"

He gestures and a goblin runs out of the throng wheezing under his bulk and lays a handful of crumpled parchment sheets on a nearby table.

"Get a team for the killing and sign up for how much of your meat you will put on the line. More meat, more fight - more fight, more crowds - more crowds, more gold crowns to the victors!"

[sblock=Adventure]This adventure is fairly straight forward. I'll run it multiple times if there's multiple groups that want to give it a go. Preference is to lower level groups over high level, but, assuming you don't get whisked away to another adventure, I'll keep running this until everyone in the tavern who wants to has had a run at the arena. Head to the recruitment thread to put together your group and decide what events you wish to enter in.[/sblock]

Sha'kar listens to the orc's speech, then lets his eyes wander around the room, gauging the reactions of the other patrons, seeing if there was enough interest to form a team.

Gil sits in a state of rapture, listening as Martelai recants the story of his armor, then to his interaction with Shale. The young wizard starts to feel particularly unaccomplished toward the end of their conversation, his most recent experience be his most harrowing to date, but the the young scholar rallies around his own desire to accomplish more and his spirits rise.

He also takes comfort in Lilli's touch, it sends a chill through his body, because of how rarely he'd been touched back home. I love the new shoes. stammers Gil, watching them twirl with his peripheral vision, keeping his eyes on Lotte. [sblock=If your character knows Elven] Lilli, the evening I spent with you language. Right, am I saying these words?[/sblock] beams Gil after showing off his feat. I've never been more happy, or broke, I'm going to need some serious money to live here permanently...

I LOVE THIS PLACE! shouts Gil, jumping up and down with excitement. I'm in! Anyone want to enter the competition with me? asks Gil excitedly of his friends and Shale.

After hearing the fat orc's proposal, Rilissa stands and announces "I shall enter your contest."

She heads out the door to the appointed area, to await destiny's path.

"I have no interest in that" says Shale. "Fight for the amusement of a crowd won't help me reach my goals. In fact my time in this city is done - I can't find answers here and I must continue my search"

Wait! You have to sign the paperwork before a gladiatorial bout. In the Imperium people can even win citizenship in the arena, my family did so a long time ago. Join me. Gil straightens his hat, then skews it, then straightens it again and stands to his full height.

"I have no interest in that" says Shale.

Once again, you've missed the point entirely... I'll miss your perspective, I hope to see you again. Gil holds his hand out to shake with the creature he still thought he'd somehow befriended.

"Thank you for the gesture. I may come back if I find what I'm looking for. In the meantime, I wish you to not die horribly."

Though you might not expect such sport to appeal to her, Dina walks over to the orc and looks over one of the parchments. She signs her name to one and waits by the door.

[sblock=If your character knows Elven] Lilli, the evening I spent with you language. Right, am I saying these words?[/sblock]

Lilli responds in her own accented Eladrin, but slowly, "You impress me! It's a little mixed up, but I had the same problem when I came here. It took me two months to get this level, but I've always been quick with snatching pieces of languages, though this is only my third with any fluency."

She repeats the same in common Allarian with a smile.

I'm in! Anyone want to enter the competition with me? asks Gil excitedly of his friends and Shale.

She then frowns in thought, "I...I don't think that's for me, Gil. It makes me very uneasy and the concept makes me a little queasy."

"I have no interest in that" says Shale. "Fight for the amusement of a crowd won't help me reach my goals. In fact my time in this city is done - I can't find answers here and I must continue my search"

Lilli looks up at Shale, "I feel much the same about these games, though perhaps I'm not ready to depart Daunton just yet. I have my own goals, but that isn't necessarily the way I'd go about achieving them. Must you leave so soon?"

OOC: I like the the idea of the sail-borne arena, but it ain't necessarily Lilli's bag. I think it'll it'll be an interesting thread to read, mind.
