Character Submission Thread

For one shot questions, this is as good a place as any. And ask away, because we would rather get everything right and the way you like it than have something that needs fixing after the fact.

It would get a second round of effect, but Daze is limited to humanoids targets, and by 4 HD. Then, the opponent is immune for ten rounds. And it always ties up your action, while only sometimes tying up the enemy's action.

It will take about a year to get to 4th level in play-by-post, but spending a rare resource like a trait on something that will lose effectiveness over time is not the best course of action. The Magical Lineage trait should be spent on a spell you expect to use for most of your career. It also locks you out of taking the Focused Mind or Magical Knack traits, which I feel are equally as good.

Some examples of a good use of Magical Lineage. Reach + Cure Light Wounds or Reach + Shocking Grasp which upgrades over time to Reach + Intensify + Shocking Grasp. The first gives the witch healing at range which she normally doesn't have. The second is one that my draconic sorcerer in another game is making quite good use of. He is low strength and high dex. So, the Reach metamagic turns the spell from melee touch based on strength to ranged touch based on dexterity.

Satin, you make very good points about the 4HD in daze and reach+touch combo! I certainly wasn't thinking about the long run...

I dunno. I still might try it just for fun, but it depends on whether the extended cantrip expends a spell allotment or not?

I can't seem to figure out how many starting spells I'm supposed to know?

I am trying to use this PCGen program and it wants me to give traits to my familiar as well? Is that right?

In LPF do the DMs normally control the familiars or do the players basically control 2 characters?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out here! Your knowledge and good-will are much appreciated! <3

Yes, you can use Magical Lineage and a +1 level Metamagic feat to get a +0 net change and keep a cantrip as a cantrip.
No, you cannot use Magical Lineage and Merciful to bring Magic Missile down to a cantrip. (I remember a developer posting on this, but the Paizo site is stuttering too much to find it at the moment. In essence, you can never get a -1 net change using the Magical Lineage trait. Developer Fiat there.)

Spells: Your intelligence gives you one bonus spell at first and second level, when you are able to cast them. So, you have a total of 3 cantrips and 2 first level spells as a first level witch (1 table, 1 INT). In comparison, a wizard would be 3 cantrips and 3 first levels (1 table, 1 int, 1 specialization school). Your choice of hex makes up the difference for a witch vs. wizard. If you had a 20 intelligence, it would give you another first level spell per day, but that usually requires sacrificing your other stats too much making you vulnerable.

Familiars do not get traits. Traits are for PC classes only.

The player controls the familiar 99% of the time. The DM can post as the familiar, eidolon or animal companion if needed when the occasion arises. (Ie, The familiar notices something via perception that the PC does not.)

Glad to help.

Cleared out some space!

The layout has changed quite a bit since last time I was here, and I didn't see that little colored bar that used to warn me... :P

Reviewing Belendwar:

1) You're due a regional language, from the list on This page, which would also determine the general area your gnome is from.

2) Hit Point total was correct, but the math indicated he had a d10 when it should be d6. Fixed.

3) You've spent two more Skill points than I believe you have. By my math, you get 2 (Wizard) + 3 (INT) + 1 (FC). That last I'm kind of assuming, since you didn't add the bonus to HP, and I filled out the math section on top of the skills with that in mind. Anyway, I count 8 points spent when you only had 6 to begin with.

I believe what's happened is that you're mis-applying your Traits. Capable gives you a +1 bonus to the skill, not a rank in it. You still have to spend a skill point to get a rank, and you still have to possess a rank to get the Class Skill bonus on it. If I'm right, then, your Bluff and Intimidate totals should actually be 4 (+3 CHA, +1 Trait).

Whether that's what happened or not, you'll need to remove two ranks or help me figure out where the other two are coming from.

4) I total your spending at 113.3, not 115.3. Fixed.

The skills are a dealbreaker, so until you have those sorted, NOT YET on approval.
