Character Submission Thread

Oops, I thought of that but forgot to do it. That's fixed.

And thank you, that makes a lot of sense. I originally thought the bonus choice was a one-time choice as well, so I picked spell so I could get spells at later levels. This way makes a lot more sense. :)

Joren Final Look

Everything looks in order here. STAMP! Joren has one non-judge APPROVAL.

With one approval, you may enter the Dunn Wright Inn, role-play, and await your second, which needs to come from a judge. Don't worry, though. A DM is allowed to take 1 approval characters at their option, so Rodents of Unusual Size, pt 3, is open to you if you wish to join since I am running it. :)

Ok, not sure this is the place to ask, as this is more about the future of my character than the current stats. (Though current stats come in a little bit.) I came at this character from a concept, the idea of a sorcerer with abyssal blood that wanted to go as far as he could in rejecting it, to the point of devoting himself to following a good god. Thus, my idea of a sorcerer/cleric multiclass, with mystic theurge being the eventual goal.

Now, I'm not backing down on my concept or anything, but I just realized this is going to put me pretty low on effectiveness in the level 4-8 range, possibly even a wider range. I don't mind losing some effectiveness to play the character if it was just me, but I just realized that could hinder my groups.

So, my questions: Will this hinderance be enough that I should change my future plans, or will it not be enough of a difference to matter? If it will be a big enough issue that I should stick with single-class sorcerer, should I shuffle my ability points around so I'm not 'wasting' so many points on a high Wisdom I won't need? Or is it even too late?

If I don't change stats, (which I'm perfectly cool with), but do go through with changing my plans, this won't affect anything except those future plans. The concept will stay the same, but I can always have him just be unsuccessful in gaining the divine favour he's looking for. (Which could lead to some interesting character development too, if he has to learn to accept his bloodline, and the power it gives him, while still doing good.)

If, however, you don't think it'll be that much of a hindrance for my groups, I'm perfectly happy the way I am and going forward with my initial plans. :)

Sorry to ramble on so much on what comes down to a couple simple questions.

personally, I prefer single class, but that combo of yours should pan out great. It is no difference then the effectiveness of a bard I would say, which those can get powerful. With the PRC benefits it should help greatly.

Fobok, it's not too late to make changes until you get into an adventure and even then you could retire a character and start anew.

Mystic Theurge is rough, and even tougher for sorcerers. Many people say it is not a good class and that you should find some other way to go. You will only have access to 1st and 2nd level spells for a long time and don't get your first level of MT until 8th level at the earliest. You won't get access to your highest level of spells until 16th+ level and then only in one class. So, you will (eventually) have access to a lot of low to mid-level spells. Of course, someone skilled at optimizing characters might be able to work around some of these things but I've also read Mystic Theurge is pretty optimization-proof.

People here are pretty tolerant towards varying power levels in characters, though, so if you like the idea and don't mind that you won't be slinging spells equivalent to a single class cleric or sorcerer then go ahead. As the player of a rogue I can tell you that you can have a lot of fun with a character that isn't the most powerful in the group.

The only thought I have on the Theurge is that a possibility is to route both the arcane and divine casting class through Charisma by choosing Sorcerer/Oracle. However, I've never tried it.
