"Burn it!" exclaimed the lion-haired young man as she bounded over him and up the stairs, using him as a running vaulting-block in the process. (It didn't push him off-balance or anything, but still...) "No fair, Sachi!"

Sachiko crowed and laughed, planting her fists on her hips at the top of the stairs and gloating down at Fastus.

"Hey, I even gave you a head start!" she pointed out, grinning her wide, smug grin. "Fair as a day at the fair! Now go on and help the half-orc. I'll sort out the warden."

With that she turned around and gave the second floor a proper look.

"Are you up here?" Sachi called. "Where?"

As you start to move through the house you hear someone sobbing followed by "Thank goodness! I thought I was a goner for sure. He emerges from his bedroom (see below). He quickly heads downstairs and gives the creature a whack with his axe for good measure. Then he heads out back to the garden. After a bit he returns looking a bit sad. "That thing killed all but three of my snakes. What happened? How did you defeat it?"

Sachiko won, and to make matters worse Jariah intercepted him about midway up, hooking him from behind by his gear:

and gestured towards, Wireth. She said flatly, “What about him, mister let’s race? Or is he not special enough for your attention?”
"Oh come one!" frowned the stymied blacksmith, still half-trying to get past symbol-girl (She was having none of it though). "Suldrel's doing it. What am *I* suppose to do?"

He went ANYWAY, a rebellious schoolboy expression on his face... "It doesn't even look serious or anything. Me and Sachi got worse *all the time*, playing around town. (His heart just stopped or something...)" he grumbled before experimentally thumping the big green ranger over the chest a couple of times (like hitting a wooden plank though: that orc was BUILT!). And indeed Wireth suddenly jerked awake, black on white eyes flashing open: "See?"

OOC: CLW 1 1d8+1=5, CLW 2 1d8+1=9. Wireth is at 8 HP. :) Fastus is out of spells for today though.

After a bit the Swamp Warden returns looking a bit sad. "That thing killed all but three of my snakes. What happened? How did you defeat it?"
"Yeah what WAS that thing?" echoed the bearded blacksmith. He poked the dead creature with some awe, then, on a hunch, looked down at its feet: "Is it the Briny River monster? I thought that was all whitish?"

OOC: Does the creature have three toes that match the tracks they found earlier, TS? Was it carrying anything of note?

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

Wireth groans and opens his eyes to see himself flanked by Faustus and Suldrel. He groans and holds his head.

"I don't hear screaming or metal clashing, so I'm going to assume you folks killed ... whatever it was?"

He glances over to see what, at this point, is a fairly mutilated corpse, then nods.

"Um, yes. I'm going with killed, there. Is everyone else okay?" he says, sitting up slowly, brows furrowing as he takes note of the second instance of a Warden, and the conversation which seems to be ongoing.

"Wait, so where did you find this one, and where's Nairo?" The last question is answered itself as the large turkey vulture swoops back into the window upon hearing the voice of its companion. Wireth smiles with relief at the sight.

Jariah Taliaferro, Human Female

Jakira had followed the halfling around to the garden and after hearing about the dead snakes asked, "We have some mice, do you still want them?"

Jariah had returned to the 1st floor and watched the mutilation of the corpse while the halfling ignored her questions. Then she observed Fastus bringing Wireth back to consciousness and gave him a stern look as she replied, "You are not fooling me, Fastus. Whatever you are doing, it is fixing their wounds. Elsbeth and Wireth were injured so badly to be almost fatal. Oh, and you are welcome to bringing you back from nearly dying too."

She offered a hand to help Wireth to his feet and answered him, "This Warden was hiding upstairs. He has not attacked us yet, so I supposed he is the real one."

After the halfling returned from the garden with his own questions Jariah replied, "Well, I already told you we defeated the imposter as you can clearly see. We called out to pay you a visit and he answered the door looking sorta like you. But we called him out on a lie and he started trying to kill us."

"What happened to you? Where did that come from?"
She gestured to the mutilated corpse.

Jakira kept following the halfling around as he moved throughout the dwelling.

Fastus looked at her a bit strangely when Jariah berated him, obviously confused: he risked it all defending them (and got hurt doing it). She poured liquid down his throat... So HE owed HER something?

Then he (tried to?) share a look with nearby Wireth (see if HE understood it better) and mentally shrugged... "Thanks?"

People from out of town were weird sometimes...

[sblock=OOC]Sorry Perrin. Got caught up in the excitment. :)[/sblock]

Elsbeth

Elsbeth went with the others inside the house looking for the real Warden. At least she hoped he was still alive. Whatever that thing had been, it hurt people badly. Clearly it was not a nice creature.

She looked around inside as the group walked in search of the Warden and followed along upstairs. She was glad to see he was still alive. At least she hoped it was the real one and not another imposter.

"Please forgive me for asking, but how do we know you are not an imposter like the other one?" she asked the halfling.

Wireth Norin, half-orc falconer

Wireth took the hand with thanks, standing and retrieving his double-bladed weapon where it fell when he did.

"Many thanks. I stopped listening after 'he hasn't attacked us.' After I managed to wind up bleeding out on the floor, I'm all for anyone who doesn't attack us," he says with a wink to the summoner.

As Jariah and Faustus exchange words, the half-orc frowns, assessing the human who generated so much unnatural heat. Then he turned to Jariah.

"Jariah, I ... I don't think he knows," Wireth says with clear surprise. He looks back to Faustus, eyes narrowing, then shakes it off.

"We can figure that out later, I suppose, now that we've found the real Warden," he decides, giving both Faustus and Jariah looks which indicate that, indeed, he's not interested in leaving that particular mystery alone, but sees that there are more immediate concerns.

As both Jariah and Elsbeth had asked the little man the things Wireth was most interested in knowing, he simply turned his attentions to the Warden to await their response.
