D&D 5E Starter set being shipped early in Canada

Even if class/background/race/ability scores/etc are the same, can't you just change personality? No mechanics needed for that. Just role-playing.

Yes, but then you would have to think out some extra goals and tie-ins to the world.
I was wondering about this too, good question.

Perhaps it would be good to have some backup pre-gens ready before you start.

If one of the new players I'm introducing to D&D dies I don't want him/her to get discouraged but to pickup another character ASAP and continue playing.

Then again, what happens when you have a TPK?
"It was all a bad dream" ? :)

Thanks for sharing this info, grimshwiz. I had a burning question in my mind. How much damage do the wizard cantrips Fire Bolt and Ray of Frost do, and how much does the cleric cantrip sacred flame do? I've been curious whether damage cantrips for clerics and wizards will be equivalent to, do less, or do more damage than they could do with physical weapons.

Ray of Frost (and Fire Bolt?) do 1d8, and 2d8 at 5th, 3d8 at 11th, and 4d8 at 17th. Ray of Frost also slows the target.

Sacred Flame deals the same, and the target cannot benefit from cover.

The Young Green Dragon in the Starter Set is not in it's lair... maybe that's the difference? Being in it's lair gives a dragon extra "lair" or "legendary" actions, without which I assume there might be a small hit to the XP score.

I got the impression from one of the live Q&As that only dragons of a certain age can benefit from legendary features, and perhaps lair features.

Ray of Frost (and Fire Bolt?) do 1d8, and 2d8 at 5th, 3d8 at 11th, and 4d8 at 17th. Ray of Frost also slows the target.

Sacred Flame deals the same, and the target cannot benefit from cover.
Fire Bolt is not in the Starter Set Rulebook. Shocking Grasp also does d8, and target can't take a reaction for turn.
