Setting sourcebooks often have introductory adventures included with them.

From the Old Grey Box to the FRCG...that's how it's been done.

These books are designed to get people started gaming in the world just as much as they're for established players.

Personally, I think this awesome. Way to go Mearls. So sick of "Yet Another Massive Update of the Entire World Because of our Hack Novelists" that occur each edition or sub edition.

Adventures that are minimal fuss drop ins to whichever FR version a individual group is playing in, is a win AFAIC.

O'rly... I had not heard of that rumor.... If true... that just got interesting for me....

Sorry to disappoint but it isn't a rumor, it is an idea that DnDPhilmont posted a thread about and has been bandied about by a few folks over the years as a dream book.

If they are newbies, I really don't expect them to do anything BUT play published adventures - it's not like a newb is going to take a setting book and start generating whole new adventures. It's what I did, its what most of the guys in my gaming group did when they started out when they were young. The only one a setting book would benefit are existing players, and they already have enough material existing for the time being until WOTC gets past the release of the three core books this year. If the newbs are playing through the whole Dragon Queen Saga in less than six months to a year, that's some dedicated play!

Yeah, I get that, but there should at least by the option for newbies to veer a bit away from the tracks, and have support to do so. I mean, even a "Sword Coast Gazetteer" would be a good idea.

This is world class stupidity, I wonder how many people are going to cancel thier order PHBs and other books.

I will not be buying another 5e book until this changes, they changed the setting with the Sundering, but the setting won't be updated?

Alot of people spent money with a reasonable expectation there would be one.

I'm really mad right now.

Well, at least you're not overreacting.

I'd love to see a setting book for FR. But I seriously doubt many people who purchased the PHB did so on the assumed condition that a 5E FR supplement would be released in the near future. And anyone who treated theirs well can surely still return it in proper nerdrage fashion.

It takes a lot of that goodwill the company has built up and thru out of the window in my eyes... Hopefully they will drop the book on us at some point... before v5.5 comes out... or 6.0 oy......

Clearly you've never been on the Star Trek Online Forums if you think that was an over reaction.

I never said the devs were stupid, just the decision.

And a large chunk of the D&D fan base are FR fans, so while it might not be a majority, its will be a significate minority that is really upset. Big enough to hurt sales.
