D&D 5E Solo games viable?

I mean, obviously, with experienced GM, etc., you can handwave a lot of things. But in terms of overall balance, how easy/hard would it be to make 5e stuff work with a single player? Might need two characters or henchmen, I suppose.

It would be more trouble than it's worth to try to adapt a published adventure for a single PC.

But obviously it's no problem at all to create your own adventure where the encounters are tailored for a single player. I believe the DMG even has a random dungeon generation algorithm if you truly mean "solo," where you are both player and DM.

I have used published adventures with a single PC in previous editions with some success, but it does take some work. Sadly, no access to a DMG yet.

i've ran several sessions with just my brother and i and it worked pretty well. i don't honestly think there's anything at all preventing a solo player game in 5e.
