D&D 5E Do you feel like the "Sorcerer" is really lacking in options?

Elemental sorcerers are fairly well covered under the dragon ones. Would you honestly not give the pyro sorcerer a resistance to fire and bonus w fire spells? That's most of what dragon sorcs get. Swap your language and dragon affinity for elemental affinity. That leaves the wings, and you're good to go.
I agree, I don't want to pay WotC for chintzy homebrew reskinning that I can do myself. I want to pay them to provide me with novel mechanical systems for unsupported fluff.

I don't know, but an elemental sorcerer focused on ice should be able to model Elsa -go on and tell me she was a wizard or warlock-, the ability to generate and shape ice and snow, and at later levels built a castle out of ice. -How many times did you see Elsa freeze and enemy to death?-. Also what do you do with water as an element? or air? those aren't obvious damaging elements, yet all you can do with dragon as an elementalist is to fry things to death.

Elsa is effectively a superhero, not a D&D character. Same with Iceman from the X-Men, the Captain Planet rings, etc. I didn't see her freeze enemies to death because it's a children's movie. You can certainly make an ice-centric sorceror. Re-fluffing is your friend. Hold person binds the target in icy shackles. The tiny hut/magnificent mansion type spells become your ice palace. But given the level of wall of ice, you aren't going to be making ice structures for a while. This could also be fixed with a spell, rather than a new subclass that would essentially be a slightly different take on the white dragon sorc.

And with celestial, wouldn't you also add some form of healing?

Not necessarily. There are plenty of angels that hand out more smites than heals.

or some way to cause radiant damage? -sorcerer spells can't do it natively-,

Until someone adds some radiant spells.

what about the favored soul? the undead bloodline? the "I'm just magical" bloodline? those are very different from the dragon magic.

I'd say that a Vampire lineage has some unique designspace

I'd like to see a warmage as a sorcerer option. Kind of like how the Eldritch Knight is a Fighter with a splash of magic to support him, It would be a Sorcerer with a splash of Fighter to support the build.

I'd just use some of the feat options as class features (like warcaster, and the one that gives 4 martial weapon proficiencies), and Voila! Warcaster option.

I'm not real fond of either one. Wild Magic is a pain in the butt at times and the Dragon Sorcerer is a bit limited conceptually. While I understand that they couldn't have included too many paths, I would have liked a "plain" sorcerer or possibly an elemental bloodline. I don't need to turn into a rock monster or warp reality on accident to be a sorcerer though, as those appeal to a very select sort of people.

As a current player of a sorcerer in a campaign with two of them.....eh, seems fine to me.

Spell selection does a LOT to differentiate the classes - the other sorc and I haven't really felt the need to double-up yet, him specializing in fiery booms (he's a dragon sorc), me doing more in the control-y action denial weirdness (I'm a wild sorc) have kept us pretty distinct.

Tides of Chaos has been pretty useful - I spam it at basically every opportunity (the DM rolls to see if I surge, and if I surge while it's missing, I get it back, which is a nice way to do it). Just reached level 6 and noticed that now I have a bane/bless spell that just takes my reaction and can be spammed all the live-long day, so that's keen. A lot more useful than they might seem on the surface.

Wild surges have not been a problem. The only time one turned against our party it poisoned the party fighter, who proceeded to not be very affected by disadvantage (his second roll was usually the same or higher than his first!). Other than that, it's basically been fluff -- music and butterflies and once I turned invisible and levitated, but didn't get a whole lot of advantage out of that. It's been a lot of fun though!

More subclasses wouldn't be bad, but there's plenty of space to explore in the sorc as it is, and I don't feel a desperate need for anything in particular.
