D&D 5E Do you feel like the "Sorcerer" is really lacking in options?

18th level: Elemental Transformation: You gain the ability to shapechange into an earth elemental of a CR equal to your level or lower for up to one hour a day.

Would you just extrapolate the stats from a regular elemental up to CR 18 using the DMG tables?

I've considered doing that for Conjure Elemental IX.

At no time does it occur to you, @MoonSong(Kaiilurker) , since you are the only one that obviously knows what it is you want, that if you took a FRACTION of the amount of time you spend, over numerous threads, telling us all how we're [and WotC] not getting it right...that YOU [and ONLY you] could have come up with your own PERFECT sorcerer subclass just the way you want it?...at any time...Probably several different ones by now.

Does that cross your mind? Have you actually looked at what 5e presents and tried to homebrew what you actually want? All we ever hear is "No, because this. No, because that. I should be able to ABC and this 'doesn't let me.' I want XYZ, but that's not right."

Or do you just say, "Well I couldn't use it at an Adventure League. If WotC doesn't give it to me, it doesn't matter" ?

AND, given that is your situation, have you ever considered starting your OWN game, then? NOT playing Adventure League? Getting some folks you know from Adventure League and saying, "let's start our own group"? Or I want to have/run/play in an additional/second group/game?

Allow yourselves to add and change and DO WHATEVER YOU WANT with different things in a 5e D&D game? No one else you know from playing in AL would be able to do a separate, non-AL, game? [EDIT TO ADD: Go to the game forums HERE on ENworld? Get in on a 5e game someone is running that's not Adventure League...or strictly adventure league that you could, maybe, use some homebrewed stuff or a DM that would permit not "strictly official" stuff? They've got to be out there somewhere![/EDIT]

I think that is exactly what I would do....and considering I have had fire mages in AD&D since the "Glantri Gazetter", and that was their capstone ability (if I recall correctly) I think I'll recreate all four classes now. (used earth initially cause of the request for a down to earth sorcerer...I like puns).

I'm not real fond of either one. Wild Magic is a pain in the butt at times and the Dragon Sorcerer is a bit limited conceptually.
Agreed. At least the draconic bloodline is decent mechanically.

Yes, but not in a way that relates to subclass. Their spell list is very narrow.
It works for me, but I'm okay with just blasting.

Yes they are definately lacking. Look at PF sorcerer.
In PF, I had to go wizard over sorcerer and a lot of that had to do with the divination wizard's goodies vs. any of the sorcerer bloodlines' goodies (which all seemed pretty lame in comparison). If there are more origins in 5e, I hope they are closer mechanically to the draconic bloodline vs. the other one.

Yes. I also think it is weak compared to the wizard.
It's much closer than it was in PF in my opinion. I had a hard time deciding between sorcerer and wizard in 5e and ultimately went sorcerer due to the metamagic.

Hiya!

No.

(PS: "You" is a generic "you", not specifically aimed at any singular person posting)

With how 5e is written, it's honestly a matter of how lazy the DM and players are. If you want an Elementalist archtype, it's dirt simple to make one; just substitute some elemental stuff in place of "draconic" for the Draconic archtype and that's pretty much it. Flavour to taste. I could probably come up with an "elementalist" archtype in about 10 minutes. Taking another 10 to 20 to write it down all nice and fancy, hit print, hand to player.

And before I hear "but I don't have time" or "but I want the professionals to do it for me"....just stop right there. If you don't have 15 minutes to spare in a day (or week!) then you have much larger problems with your life. If you have no imagination or self-confidence to create something for a game where using your imagination to create something is kinda the point...again, you have much larger problems.

Having said that, if you are primarily interested in "official Adventure League" play... then you have an honest to goodness problem and I can see the desire for a official, printed archtype(s). But if you aren't doing AL stuff... just make it up already.

Great! I look forward to seeing that elementalist subclass write-up as an article in morrus' EN5ider Patreon in a few weeks, since you have time to write it up. :)

[MENTION=92511]steeldragons[/MENTION] Yes, probably I could try something like that, if the closest AL store just wasn't out of the state, other players living just that far away. Don't you think I don't want to have a home group? I'd love to, but right now it isn't easy.

And in criticizing archetypes, notice that I said "subtle and down to earth" and "not combat focused", all of my nos and buts were in line with it. (Turning into a monster isn't subtle)

But we agree that it has too little if I don't like to blast?
