I believe that the Weave is optional fluff, but after re-reading the section again, they don't state it that way.
I'd find it horribly irritating to have to read "but, of course, like everything else in this book, this is optional and the setting you play in might be different" with every paragraph of fluff.

Because we all know that everything in the book is optional, especially the setting fluff.

Oh I totally agree with you, I was just noting that I could understand why the OP I quoted thought the way they did.

Thanks for this discussion. I think it shows some of the problems with a set of rules that perhaps tries to walk a fine middle line of "it's ultimately up to you" and here are the stated rules for those who need/want it spelled out. Not that I'm complaining mind you. I find these rules to work well in spite of, or perhaps because of, these "discrepancies."

I would like to see a bit more on the issue of Reactions in the mechanics of a Ready Action. To help me clarify how this might play out in some situations:i.e. A Ready Action to fire an arrow at the next enemy to emerge from around the corner, and while waiting an enemy that crosses my path such that I would get a Reaction Opportunity Attack. Would I then get the second Reaction Attack when my Readied Action is triggered?

Thanks.

No you only get 1 reaction per turn. So if you ready your reaction (not an action) for a certain trigger, but instead take an opportunity attack because that triggered first, that's your reaction. You don't get another one. One tactic I like to do when playing a frontliner, and something attacks the caster, I will move up to attack it, then move away to allow it to get it's opportunity attack on me, so the caster can, move away worry free.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it would play out that way, though I wasn't sure. And I suppose, this like almost everything else can be modified if so desired.

I also like your frontliner tactics.

What neogod said about only 1 reaction.

If you want to take that readied action you'd have to pass on the opportunity attack.

You're speaking semantics. You may be able to get 2 in a round once before your turn and once after, but you can't get 2 in every round.

We are ***literally*** discussing the meaning of rules and the difference in definition of round and turn and what results come from that.

I do not think one can get more "semantic" than that, can you?

Semantic - relating to meaning in language or logic.

???

But back to the key bits...

Did anyone say you could get w every round? If so i did not see that.

But someone did say you can only get one in a round and said it was in the PHB.

That was what i was referring to, that direct statement, not your new "every turn" notion.

And the reason this is key is that in DnD 5e use of round and turn as if they are interchangeable (say by rephrasing the reaction "turn" reset as if it was "round" limitation) can cause a lot of problems.

For a rogue, the "turn" limitation on their sneak attack is big but if the same GM who though reactions were "per round" also made the same screw up for sneak, that would hurt as getting a second sneak in is a good strategy one can work towards - as long as your gm knows the "semantic" difference between turn and round in 5e.

Am I the only person who is struggling to parse what the heck is even being discussed in this thread?

Not at all. I don't even want to engage in it.

That's it. No comment. Just replying for solidarities sake.

(Except that mage dlayer allows you to use your reaction to interrupt a spell plus other things, basically rendering above discussion moot. Oops! Couldn't resist!)
