This is true: However, large, huge, gargantuan, and colossal are all synonyms as well.

I suggested "Big" because it cuts down on potential confusion between having two different flavors of Medium.

By the usage that I am familiar with.

• Large, Big, and Great, are moreorless synonymous.
• Huge, Enormous, are moreorless synonyms, and mean ‘very large’.
• Colossal, Gargantuan, Titanic, are moreorless synonymous, meaning something like the height of an apartment building.
• Vast, something that eclipses the horizon.

Giant and gigantic depend on context, meaning ‘huge’ or ‘titanic’.

I suggested "Big" because it cuts down on potential confusion between having two different flavors of Medium.

One reason why I prefer to split up Medium is because normal humans can differ so greatly in size. A human can easily be lightweight or heavyweight. So, the possibility of various D&D Size categories is normal for humans.

Can I just point out that you two are arguing semantics on something that does not and--at least for the lifespan of this edition (and probably beyond)--never will exist in the game? :p

I don't like the Charge being 1/rest. Yeah, yeah, I get why they did that, but it just feels so artificial. I'd rather it came with some kind of downside or risk.

That and the wonky climbing rules, plus the size issue. While I get the appeal of some players wanting to play different races, this highlights the challenges with things that make sense vs maintaining a strict adherence to “game balance.”

I much prefer a risk/reward approach too, but the fact is, there’s little downside to a centaur charging unless the target is well prepared. So they either have to artificially limit it, ignore it, or allow it without worrying about balance. I’d prefer the last, but then I’m also not very likely to allow the race unless I was specifically designing for it.

Of course, the climbing thing highlights one thing they could have addressed. Like, they can’t climb a cliff, deal with it. They also can’t crawl or fit in a lot of potential passages, and the cities and buildings aren’t designed around their needs either. The streets are one thing, going indoors quite another.

Taking into account limitations like that offsets the combat advantage of charging (for both them and a rider), carrying capacities, etc. it’s just not the direction they’re ever going to take.

Possibly a Idiot.
You mean having pointless arguments isn't the purpose of the Internet? :p

I guess now would be a good time to point out that because Centaurs are Medium: Centaurs can ride other Centaurs.

I like both races. Nothing particularly awesome but everything makes sense, and thankfully not too many minor abilities that unnecessary increase complexity.

I don't think the natural weapons grant an extra attack, you just use them in place of regular weapons. So those are in fact a bit redundant, but it makes sense that horns and hooves are described as a lot more power than human punches.

I don't think that there should be a reason against large playable characters, but I do think that because the "large" property implies larger weapons, a centaur should not be large in technical terms. It just needs a simple ad-hoc property that says either "works as large but uses weapons as medium" or "works as medium but occupies space as large".
