Grease is underrated and most people don't realize you can cast it on walls or ceilings, if knocked prone in these cases the creature would fall, at least that's how I would play it.

My read is it cannot be cast on walls or ceilings. "Slick grease covers the ground in a 10-foot square centered on a point within range and turns it into difficult terrain for the duration. When the grease appears, each creature standing in its area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or fall prone. A creature that enters the area or ends its turn there must also succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or fall prone."

The light domain grants access to fireball I think.

Yes, but assuming your cleric is going to be a light cleric seems kind of odd for a semi-generic build guide. Not that it's not nice to see another selection at third level, but I don't follow the logic.

Edit: Corrected quote.

I'm...thinking this is not intended as in reply to my post?

It does. I haven’t read the description in so long I forgot that and have let players cast a 10’ square in any relationship to gravity. I guess they got one over on me.

Yeah, this is why I basically always pull up the spell text when I'm the DM, it's easy to forget a word or phrase from a spell that you don't see all the time (or even from ones you do see regularly).

From a defensive point of view I still need to validate to what extend you need Fire Shield compared to std:
0) Minor Image 1) Magic Armor 2) Shield 3)Absorb elements 4) Misty Step 5) Invisibility 6) Mirror Image

In the context of the above I think that Absorb elements fills that slot quite well at a lower level - granted if you're going to need to find other ways to have evasion if you're going multiple rounds against fire/cold damage but then would prefer greater invisibility as it provides protection beyond just these two types of damage. That being said re-reading Absorb elements - what a fantastic spell :)

Or, as a DM, you might consider allowig spells to work sightly beyond the text when the PCs have a good idea. If the PCs want to use a spell in nan inventive way that isn't quite in the text, I have them make a roll to spellcraft what they want to do and either have the spell do something unpredicted or fail if they fail the roll. It is a lot of fun - and it makes the PCs feel like heroes.

Do I let enemies do it? Generally, no. Only special ones, and then only in minor ways. It makes those special BBEGs feel special.

I would say since his main melee attack is the Gaze from being an enchanter, Fire Shield would keep the others off. Since Polymorph is your main 4th level spell anyway, its more of an emergency button I suppose. I would have went with Banishment, Summon Demon or Watery Sphere. I have always been a fan of Watery Sphere, it can split team enemy up and you get to attack those in the sphere with advantage. You can also use it as a blocker in some cases.
