I think @BookBarbarian sounds like they're a better authority but I'm at risk of diabetes due to a surgery i had, and one of the best exercises I've been recommended is resistance training/ aka weight lifting.
Oh I'm hardly an authority. If anyone did ask my advice I would say follow whatever type of exercise that inspires you to exercise.

By all accounts aerobic exercise is the best for reducing blood sugar levels overall, but I pretty much can't stand it.

But doing exercise that involve lifting and moving or carrying like, farmer's carry and stone loading and tossing sandbags makes me feel like a real life Barbarian 💪so I do that. Then some walking or ellipticals on my off days for longer sustained low intensity cardio.

When it gets down to it, whatever gets you off the couch is the best form of exercise.

This 100%.

I do also need to start upkeeping my testosterone levels because they started dipping when I hit about 31, so I’m looking into getting back into SCA fighting, but it’s weirdly easy to do that and stay just as fat and unhealthy as I started...

Although doing sprints in full gear always helped. 😂

Whereas a physical activity I enjoy will naturally be on my mind when I wake up, and while that executive disfunction will still happen, it will happen far less often.
Absolutely true!
Ballroom dance worked very well for me. There's always new stuff to learn, it's constant mental activity as well as physical, and it gets you out interacting with other people, which is good for those of us who tend to be hermits.
This hits home for me. I took a couple Latin/Swing/Ballroom classes in college. I was dancing about 15 hours a week. I lost weight and gained quite a bit of confidence. Between those two gains and the endorphins you get from exercise it was very helpful with my depression.

Unfortunately it's not possible to do it with a strained rotator cuff. Wish this thing would hurry up and heal already...
Best of luck on the recovery!

Oh 31. That was the age I was when I got my diabetes diagnosis. The same week my oldest was born too so I'll always remember.

I don’t remember exact, but my diagnoses was around then as well. I’m 35 now, and have managed to keep the insulin needle far away from me so far, but I gotta get back into at was the shape i was in when I was in the SCA.

But I also just hate not being able to move like I wanna, this Dex. (Figure I should at least nod in the direction of the thread topic)

We have drifted quite a bit now haven't we.
Wow...

Why is everyone voting for constitution?
See the previous 5 pages of posts for the answer 😉

This answer only creates more questions for me. Why are there so many diabetics on this site? Why has this one health issue caused them to believe other scores would not be an even better choice? Furthermore, statistically, there are two other ability scores that would have the free knock on benefit of removing diabetes from the equation in tge first place. Im not going to say what those two stats are though. Feel like thats a can of worms. Still...this only creates more questions. Wtf...
