D&D 5E Have we rebalanced the Champion Yet?

Give the champion a +1 damage, maybe +2 if you love him enough.
or maybe an additional d4 or d6 when he crits, which such extensive math you should be able to lower the difference under 2%.
but be warned, in some game 2% loss of efficiency is enough to be considered crap choice.

Those both provide a boost that scales with swings.

The Champion is at its weakest when it has the fewest swings, and catches up with the BM's damage output when it has the most swings.

So if you want to fix the champion, you should focus on when it is weakest, not when it is strongest.

I think the champion is fine for its casting. Management less and lazy fighter sub class. If some player care about nova and DPR he don’t play champion. The problems appear when you play champion having battle master expectation.

Sure, we can keep it as a low management and easy to play fighter sub class. You can even leave it alone.

But if we are going to fix it, don't fix it in ways that don't deal with the problem.

There are ways you can boost it that keep it a low management and easy to play fighter subclass that doesn't end up boosting it more when it needs it less. So do that instead.

But if we are going to fix it
You could fix it by playing a different fighter subclass - indeed a "Fixed-Champion" would be a different fighter subclass.

There are no character archetypes that can be filled by Champion that can't equally well be filled by a different class - it's completely unessential.

Joke aside, maybe increase significantly crit range on the first round of combat.
that is still management less, but add a kind of nova feeling.
of course that may result in a buff for paladin...

Feats clearly can synergize with the increased Crit range, which enhance the features power.

I asked for clarification as, prior to the Hexblade and Oath of Conquest subclasses, only the Champion received this boon.

A hypothetical monk subclass, that granted the monk a 19-20 Crit range on all attacks made that round, is not, I think ‘garbage’.

Power creep, as always has occurred. Booming Blade, Green Flame Blade, and Absorb Elements boost the Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight.

The Hexblade sort of steps on the Champions toes by being able to roughly keep up in number of attacks thru Eldritch Blast, and Crit on a 19-20 and add their Proficiency bonus to damage, for 1 minute per short rest, against a singular foe.

How would you feel about a Champion adding their Proficiency bonus to damage on a critical hit?
The monk subclass would be more powerful in the levels that matter (low levels), because it already has 3-4 attacks per round. (Which is why monk/warlock or monk/ranger are fun MC)

And feats can synergize, but they cannot be part of the balance consideration of a class or subclass.

Adding prof to damage on a crit is a pretty small boost, but it would help. I’d rather do something out of combat related like a flat bonus to untrained physical checks or something, but extra damage on a crit works.
