D&D General Method V Abilities UA

Legend
Well day 17 if lockdown, day 23 self isolation.

My wife is creating an illusionist/thief for Castles and Crusades and I'm allowing her to use it.

In our isolation bubble it's just the two of us.

For those of you who don't know it's jeep best 3 scores.

Str 3d6
Int 8d6
Wisdom 7d6
Dex 9d6
Con 5d6
Cha 6d6

C&C uses the old B/X ability score array so 13-15 is +1, 16, 17 + 2 and an 18 is +3.

The basic mechanic is level plus ability score DC 12 if proficient, 18 if not proficient and converting a 5E bard she is level 8 in both classes.

Thoughts on when method V can be used. She's a solo PC in lockdown so what the hell.

I played with this method a couple of times in the 80s. If u can handle a campaign with powerful characters and have fun then do it. We did it and had a blast. But then went back to playing without it. It wasn’t something we wanted to do regularly. But it is tempting me to try it again. Of and I ended up playing a fighter with an 11 strength and a 17 intelligence. Go figure.

5d6 keep 3 for each roll, with rearrangement allowed, doesn't work too badly. That said, for a T-I you need two pretty good stats (Int and Dex) and my experience with 5d6 (which I've used for nigh 40 years now) is that while it's common to get one good score (16+) it's not that common to get two or more.

I play in a group that does 5d6 drop 2 and we see multiple 16+ all the time.
