Weapons are like latin languages. Once you learn one, it's much easier to learn the next one, because you can just skip over the similarities. There are groups of them that are so similar, that there is little to learn except the few differences.

I already admitted that it would take longer than a day and cause a disconnect. How about you admit that 39 different weapons are not all completely different from any other weapon?

Longsword, Shortsword, Rapier, Dagger, and Scimitar are all vastly different weapons. Different edges and lengths, for example you would never want to parry with a thin weapon like a rapier or a short weapon like a shortsword, but you can with a Longsword.

Handaxe, Greataxe and Battleaxe would all be very different for the same reason. I mean, a handaxe would be great for pulling a shield or weapon aside, but the battleaxe wouldn't because you aren't choking up on the haft nearly as much.

Slashing with an Axe (all the weight at one end of the weapon and designed to impact with the head) would be vastly different than slashing with a Longsword (the weight is distributed and meant to travel along the wound, not impact in a single point)

I mean, I guess if you think "the basics" means: "Pointy end goes in bad guy", I can see your point, that is pretty simple and easy to learn. But since we are talking proficiency, I feel like they go a bit deeper than that.

(No one answered my original question. Why are you arguing about weapon proficiency in a Psionics thread?)

Max put forth that Wizardly magic shouldn't be a teachable skill, because it would lead to everyone knowing basic magic by the time you run an adventure.

They made the claim that learning magic can't be that hard, because it only takes a single level of wizard and in the span of 24 hours you know magic.

Pointed out that a single level of fighter represents a truly massive amount of knowledge since it gives proficiency with all weapons, armor and shields.

We are now here trying to show that that knowledge is actually substantial and not just something basic like 2+2=4

Okay, seems like the way threads go.

I agree that knowledge on how to become a member of a D&D class typically takes quite a long time from a character's life, and a lot of concentration.

In real life, it takes around 10,000 hours of practicing a skill to become a master of it. This is typically how I think of D&D classes. You spend years of your life devoted to learning one skill or ability, and eventually get the hang of it, so leveling up takes less time.

Which kinda proves I've seen before.

people want psionics to be different and special, in multiple ways.

That isn't what I said, actually. And you've managed two Strawman's in one sentence. Quite a feat.

I said that not everyone would be able to learn it, not that it should not be teachable. I also said that spellcasters would be common, not that everyone would know magic. Which I corrected you on directly the last time you posted that particular Strawman.

Do you even know how to post logically valid responses?
