D&D 5E What's wrong with this psion?

There's a difference between "it would be great if WotC released more material like psionics" and "I'm going to be mad if WotC releases psionics and it's wrong".

....."I'm going to be happy if WotC releases psionics and it's wrong?"

That would be awesome, if exceedingly unusual. While forgiveness is amazing, most people don't spend a lot of time on internet forums talking about how thankful they are that a company botched a product that they were looking forward to.

It would be healthier!

I think the healthy approach is to simply not have a strong opinion about what is "right" and "wrong" and simply let creative people do the best they can. I personally feel that way about most geek IP, but I understand I'm in a distinct minority on that.

Nothing 1 minute of house-ruling or a 2 minute conversation with the DM can't solve, no?

What about using the DMG spell point (power point) variant?

I could have chosen different spells.

Which of those things looks and feel like magic?
Like I said, none of those arguments sway me either... I was just dropping the list that I thought would come up. And based upon the lists that came after mine it looks like I was pretty spot on about what the complaints were going to be. :)

That's RAW. You can make every class arcane or every class divine if you want to. No class is both, though.

Even if you changed the power source, though sorcerers still cast spells and use external power, not internal.

I don't remember reading that. Where can I find the quotations?

Why can't arcane be divine? Why can't it mean psionic?

Don't a ton of 5e spells have augments built in already? I mean, that's what spell slot scaling IS.

It's not spell scaling.

  1. You can't cast a spell at with slot you don't have. If you are a 5th level sorcerer, you can't cast fireball as a 4th level spell since you lack 4th level slots.
  2. Metamagic is general as they have to tag multiple spells. Augments are tailor made to each power.
  3. If you convert Augments to Metamagic many of them would be useless as they would affect a very very small group of spells. Who would take a metamagic that raises weight limits or switches humanoid to get and giants?

I don't know. If you're going to keep getting angry at people complaining on the internet, you might want to consider what is more likely to change: your approach, or the internet. :)
Heh heh... I've been here on the EN World message boards from coming up on 20 years now... I've never gotten actually "angry" about anything that gets written here. I've just grown tired of seeing the same complaints keep cropping up over those 20 years (regardless of edition). I want NEW complaints to crop up for me to write about dammit!!! Come on, people! GIMME SOMETHING NEW TO TAKE YOU TO TASK FOR!!! I HAVE WORK I NEED TO AVOID DOING!!! ;)

I tend to think most people believe that they feel that way.

I also think that there are many people that strive to feel that way.

But it usually comes down to whose ox is being gored. Different people have a different breaking point, and while you can view U, V, W, X, and Y dispassionately, maybe wondering why people would get all worked up about it, even for the best of us there will probably be some "Z" that we will feel protective about, passionate about, that we care about.

Maybe it's not geek culture, but something else. But I can certainly sympathize with people who want to see something they love done well. If there has never been a single thing that you feel has been done incorrectly ... well, you are a better than I.
