Which is a shame, as this is a Forum where it is possible to have interesting, DM oriented conversations. Other forums, seem to have developed a "RAW" only mentality which extends to a prohibition on even considering Campaign context in Thread discussions.

I have two players in one of the games I DM, start their own campaigns, with themselves as the DM.

It would be interesting to know if the 5e rule set is encouraging more people to try DM-ing.
This is exactly the place where I came for good DM advice and got it in spades. Thanks.
Player 80%, DM 20% BTW

For the last 15 years, I've been DMing in one group, playing in another... but I rarely get to play what I want - I end up running the games I want to play :/

So 50/50 overall, but for D&D it's probably well over 50% DM by now.

I started DMing in 1994 or 95, a few months after I started playing. I was one of three or four people in my friend group who mostly DMed (it was a pretty large group).

I started DMing because nobody else was running a game the way I wanted to see it go (initially that just meant "set in the Dragonlance campaign setting"), and I've been a DM most of the time since.

Maybe you should have put a few more options like

"I ALWAYS DM"
"I DM most of the time"
"I've DM'd, but I mostly Play"
"I've never DM'd"

The poll would have been more nuanced? It's 100% one-sided!

For myself, I DM about 3/4 of the time. While I run PBP games here on ENWorld, I can't quite bring myself to DM zoom games, so I've stepped back with my regular F2F group to be a player, while we're not meeting up. This is the longest I've spent as a player in 35 years.

Interesting to see how this forum have changed. Back in 4th edition it was a lot of players in here asking for advice on how to improve/optimize their characters. They are almost gone now, and I must say I miss them. It is a little bit too "DM heavy" these days.

It seemed to be a transition time following the shut down of the WOTC forums - just spit-balling.

My players do not interact in online media with the game much at all, except for youtube videos and streaming.
