ENWorld's Guide to Life

Video games are cheaper than ever and you have inflation to thank for it.

An NES cartridge was $50 in November 1990. That would be $97.25 today.
PS1 games that cost $60 at launch would cost $100 today. First-party Super Mario 64 cost $70 at launch. That would be $112 today.

The $60 price tag is 25 years old. Don't complain about it. Historically speaking, you're getting a bargain.

Being ecstatically happy is not a normal state of being, so don't set your sights on that as a goal. You are unlikely to ever reach it. If you are simply content with your life, job, relationship and have moments of actual joy, then your life is good.

Don't listen to anyone who says, "Make your passion your job." Jobs generally kill passion. Get a job that you can do in the long term, without killing anyone, then keep your passions on the side as therapy.

Almost nothing in life is absolute, including this statement ;)

Learn from the mistakes of successful people and the successes of failed ventures.

Lots of people work hard but fail for no fault of their own. Lots of companies make money through dumb luck of being in the right place at the right time. When you follow the story of a champion's rise or a loser's fall, it's difficult to separate out how much they actually deserve credit for.

I learned nerd for this.
Some people count the hits, and ignore the misses. Others count the misses and ignore the hits. Count them both, this is how we learn and grow. We're all going to have highs and lows. It's easy to dwell on the lows and forget the highs. If you look at both, you might find they're about even.
