D&D Movie/TV D&D TV Show By John Wick Creator

From Hollywood Reporter — “Derek Kolstad, the creator and writer behind the John Wick franchise, has been tapped to pen and develop a pitch for a live-action series based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe.”

The article doesn’t say anything more, unfortunately, other than describing what D&D is — “Affectionately referred to by fans as D&D, the game is known for its wars, treasure hunts, campaigns, camaraderie, and reversals of fortune, all in a setting that combines humans, elves, orcs and hundreds of other creatures. The game famously uses multisided dice in gameplay to further the imaginary story and is overseen by a host known as the Dungeon Master.”

If it happens wotc needs to let it be it's own setting rather that trying to fanboi in the content & result from decades of FR novels
Id rather they take a hands off approach and interject just to make sure its a good representation of the game. Let everyone they hire worry about everything else. Concentrate on making a great show instead of using it as a vehicle for game books or novels.

Wotc's track record shouldn't be ignored. If wotc owned star trek and was starting startrek the next generation today with Patrick Stewart as Picard they would be pushing for a skilled actor from the royal Shakespeare company to engage in an over the top aping of shatner's kirk,
geordy would have a Scottish accent, or crusher would always be saying "dammit Jean luc, I'm a doctor not a ..."

When i read 'invited to pen and develop a pitch,' it sounds kinda like 'we own the rights to this property and we've got no damn idea how to actually turn it into a thing you can see on screen, let's ask yet another writer if he has any ideas'.

To be honest this sounds like a sign that the whole project is stuck in development hell more than anything else.
Hey, at least this latest jaunt through the infernal regions features a) a writer with some real chops and b) an idea for a TV show, which is a far more natural fit for D&D than a movie.

Worst case, the pitch is rejected and we're back where we were before. Best case, we get something really good.

And the Holodeck would just be constant DDO.

Or if we wanted to stick to Hasbro properties for comparison... the way wotc treats FR would be like a new transformers cartoon having a heavy my little pony influence right down to energon being the energy of friendship or a gi joke cartoon with cobra's moon base resort the seat of power for queen celestia
