To be quite honest, if a single failed save against Crown of Madness with an enemy adjacent to you isn't something you can handle, you don't have an "unbeatable" build.

Nice job handling how the contingency changed the situation for the wizard, btw. I stepped away to do some stuff around the house, and I recognized the ... problem as I was vacuuming.
