D&D 5E artificer initiate, fey touched and shadow touched vs magic initiate and spell slots

Shield is far more useful than Absorb Elements (which I used about once in five levels). So the AT is better picking up shield via magic initiate than Absorb Elements via Artificer Initiate. But even that is a bad option - it competes with Uncanny Dodge for reactions.

You will have plenty of opportunity to lean invisibility later on - its not worth blowing a feat to get it a couple of levels earlier. Fey Touched for Misty Step and Hunters Mark or Hex Is a much better choice.
Sheild is a better spell than absorb elements, but getting shield through MI is inferior to getting absorb elements thrrough AI. If he takes shield using MI he can cast shield once a day only. If he takes absorb elements using AI he can cast it as many times as he has spell slots plus 1. The feats are not the same and AI RAW is a better feat because it allows use of slots to cast in addition to the free cast.

I already have Fey touched, misty step and Hex. I won't learn invisibility until 13th level (BS6/AT7) considering the other spell options and even if I get it with a scroll the limited number of prepared spells means it likely will not be prepared for the bladesinger. As far as feats go shadow touched is a +1 int and 2 extra spells per day plus invisibility on my spell list. Adding in the Fey touched, that is not just a lot of options and 2nd level spells available but 4 more total castings and 4 more "prepared" spells a day as well. At AT3/BS2 that is nearly twice as many total castings as I would otherwise have.

No, read what the previous posters have said. Shield is on the Arcane Trickster spell list, so it can be cast with slots.

Most reasonable DMs would allow it to be cast with slots anyway, post Artificer Initiate, but Shield can be cast with slots RAW.

But it's still a waste of a feat, since rogues get Uncanny Dodge. Better taking +2 DEX.
